Hi, I decided to try reading "real japanese" so I checked a magazine out of the library. Already, I'm having trouble with this sentence. It's on the cover of the women's fashion magazine "婦人画報". The headline is:
完全保存版べストレストランガイド。
I looked up the compounds in my kanji dictionary but all put together it doesn't really compute, but here's what I get from it:
完全 = kanzen (completely, perfectly)
保存 = hozon (preservation)
版 = han (edition)
べストレストランガイド = besuto resutoran gaido (best restaurant guide).
I think the meaning is something like "best restaurant guide, an edition you'll want to keep" but I'm not sure.
Do they omit okurigana in headlines?
Here's the magazine online. Bizarrely, this is the only Japanese magazine I could find on the shelves of my public library. Every other page has ads for jewelry encrusted with diamonds, so I assume it's targeted at "rich" people.

I think it refers to a new "style app" for your hand held device, about shoes, and furthermore this style app is a "miracle".
Would a correct translation be "Miracle Shoe Style App!"? Or am I completely misinterpreting this? Is the "の" the same type of "の" as in "友達の医者" "my friend the doctor" i.e., two put two things in apposition?

I'm just trying for practice here, so I hope someone else confirms this. アップ can mean "up" as in "close-up", so スタイルアップ could mean close-up style. So if could just mean "close-up of a a wonderful pair of shoes/boots." ...or not.
...on second thought, looking at the grammar again makes me think your translation more likely.

The で is the "by means of" particle, I think.
As Vempele said, アップ as "up" is pretty common in combination with other words, like イメージアップ, バージョンアップ, レベルアップ, グレードアップ, スキルアップ, etc.

Thanks everyone. So taking everything together it looks like the translation may be:
奇跡の“靴”でスタイルアップ
"Style up with these miracle shoes!"
"Style up" reminds me of a review for super slim men's "cowboy" blue jeans I saw once. The headline of the review said "Cowboy up!" meaning, dress up like a cowboy with these jeans.
I'm finding magazine headlines are kind of tricky to read (for a complete beginner like myself), I suppose because there's not always a lot of context. I struggled with one before realizing that the kanji were actually the name of a person.

Looking at the sentence again: 奇跡の“靴”でスタイルアップ
now I see better the structure of the sentence. Since スタイルアップ is at the end of the sentence, and is preceded by で, スタイルアップ is probably meant to function as a verb (style up) rather than as a noun. Or maybe not. I'll have to take a look at the actual article inside the magazine.

This sentence from 君にしか聞こえない just came up again in my reviews, so this seems like a good time to swallow my pride and post it here. Any help would be appreciated, though I hope you don't mind if I immediately claim to have figured it out for myself afterwards
Here is the sentence (not a spoiler):
その教室にあるのは、他の場所で生きるのが困難な子供たちの笑顔と、普通の子供ならすぐに置き去って成長してしまう幼い純真さだけだった。
Despite knowing all of the vocab and (ostensibly) all of the grammar, I'm still not sure what it's trying to say. None of my guesses seem to incorporate all of the information given.
Edit: something just occurred to me:
その教室にあるのは、他の場所で生きるのが(困難な子供たちの笑顔と、普通の子供)ならすぐに置き去って成長してしまう幼い純真さだけだった。
Is this another case of being thrown by the Japanese use of the comma?

子供たち isn't grammatically connected to 純真さ, but the contrast between 他の場所で生きるのが困難な子供たち and 普通の子供なら... part makes it clear it's the same children that have both the 笑顔 and the 純真さ.
