That's not really true. It's the same with Khatz telling people to have fun all the time and yet he talks about adding 50 sentences a day to his SRS. The numbers just don't add up.

Time is limited. I can't really skip the SRS revisions or due cards start piling up, and when I'm done I have to choose. I can study and add new sentences from KO something or read a few chapters from a book or watch a dorama (or maybe do something else because I'm tired of Japanese all the time).

OK it's not always that bad but still most the time a choice has to be made. I'm not saying that to say that KO is not worth it, I think it is. But it's like false advertising to claim that you can have everything at the same time.
Obviously its a trade off. More KO=less native media time. But I watch anime/dorama while doing KO and all of my SRS reviews. And I read Japanese stuff before I go to bed (like the Harry Potter audiobook). The whole point of the immersion environment is so that you experience Japanese even when you're not actively studying.

I guess I'm a bit of a multitasking-音痴, I really can't watch stuff and study at the same time.

I think the only part that relies on windows is the GUI, since ffmpeg is available to Linux, Windows and Mac so I think all you'd have to do is port the GUI. Unless theres something else I'm missing.

If it's just the GUI, would it be good idea to just rewrite it in something like WxWidgets? That way it would work on all systems?

*Bwuh? the post above disappeared when I posted...*

Subs2srs deck downloads - Asriel - 2009-07-16

Yeah, I figured it'd make more sense to post it in the thread where it's distributed, or at least talk about, rather than a post about decks.

Thanks a lot though! If it's just the GUI, it might not be too difficult to port then...

IceCream Wrote:no, i didnt find Japanese subs, i wish i could! I've looked everywhere! But dramanote, e.g. ep1 http://www.dramanote.com/?eid=826623 has some of the lines, and i rikaichanned other words i picked out... apart from that, just english subs for meaning...

Who's your favourite actor? (Fuu's mine, followed by Sho... not really about the acting though Wink

If you can do them, it would be amazing!!! it's my favorite show ^_^

Do you use subs2SRS already? If not, the link is here: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=2512
if you can use it, would be so much smaller than uploading the whole series. Rapidshare or megaupload should be ok, and http://learnanylanguage.wikia.com/wiki/Sub2srs_decks has links to other decks so far, so you can post there...
When i did it, i found 150ms was good for pad timings. The pictures were a bit blurred, but not sure what anyone does about that... just pictures and audio is fine too... maybe with the pictures a little bigger than the default, if it doesnt make it too big?

If you like, as i go through them, i can reupload them with Japanese notes in if your interested?

Thankyou!!!
Oh wow, I'd checked dramanote before, but all I saw was that it wasn't a series that was going to be summarized. I totally missed the first episode being on there. Thanks for that!

My favorite actor is Seto Kouji (aka Setomaru), who played Satoru (aka the worst 引きこもり in the world).

As for decks, I don't really have any interest in making them without the Japanese subtitles. I've ripped the audio from the first few episodes and listen to those sometimes, but I don't want to study dialogue with Anki unless I know for sure what's being said. But if you need the episodes I'd be happy to help in getting them to you. Were you able to see the whole series?

Let's see if I can get this right about how to create or convert a idx/sub format to user friendly text format.:

Using subs2srs and dramanote, I could-

1. Use subs2srs to create a txt output file of the sub and idx file that happens to have timing info in the .png title name.
2. Use those png title names and spreadsheet manipulations to create a timing standard Aegissub can use.
3. Start copying and pasting from drama note site into Aegissub, using the png subtitle pictures as reference.

Using sub2srs and ocr software-

1. Do steps 1 and 2 above for automatic timing date.
2. Scan png's produced with OCR, pasting them into Aegissub.

After new Aegissub is made, re-run subs2srs with all files. In addition, post subtitle file.

Am I making this too complicated? Is there a better way to extract timing information from idx/sub files?

Oh, you guys wanted the text srt's, sorry.
You could rip the nobuta deck Smile
Just use a script to convert the timings in the mp3 files (in the .tsv file) to regular srt timing and print the japanese text under. Or someone who has them can post them Big Grin

Got kind of ignored huh? Make a new anki deck and use the file->import function to import the .tsv file. Then copy the media to your decks media folder.

I forgot my password to the 'pubbie' account, so I had to make a new one. This time I stored the password ('whatisthetime') in IE. Anyway, here are the JSubs I made Nobuta wo Produce 30-40%complete_JSubs.rar
http://www.rapidspread.com/file.jsp?id=hlymualzjf

Notice it says 30-40% complete JSubs.

Which episodes for bleach and FMA?

*edit* Whoa, were did you get the subs for the FMA one (I'd to make a version with video)? I didn't expect there to be 16 episodes worth...

Subs2srs deck downloads - cescoz - 2009-08-04

you can find fma jp subs at kitsunekko.com!
the good is that you can do even a 720p video deckXD

Subs2srs deck downloads - bombpersons - 2009-08-04

Wow, I didn't realize that site had so many subs, up to episode 17 of FMA =D And all episodes of K-on! 0.o

I'm gonna have to download them in hd and make a personal deck =D

WOW! THANKS!

Right now I'm downloading the 鋼連 deck. On the other hand, for some reason the Japanese subtitles I downloaded from kitsunekko.net don't show on KMP nor VLC, while I can see them with Aegisub. =/

I have the chapters in mkv, most of them with english subs, but VLC only shows the english subs embedded into the files and doesn't show the Japanese subs when I try to use them. With KMP, the subtitles appear in the subtitle navigator, but don't show up in the main window with the video. Does anybody know what can I do to fix that and enjoy the show with the Japanese transciption?

Thanks in advance.

I've had this problem before and it was caused by the character encoding of the sub files. To make sure you get them in unicode, you can try either:

1. Open them in Aegisub and export them.
or
2. Open the subs in firefox, copy and paste the text into a text editor that lets you choose which character encoding to save as. I know gedit on ubuntu saves as unicode by default, but if you're on windows you'd probably have to download a more advanced editor than notepad.

This fixed the problems I had.

EDIT: Ok nevermind, I figured it out. Silly me, should have just read the appropriate instructions first... Move along, nothing to see here...

Hey, it seems like I've missed something very basic but I can't find the answer anywhere - when you import the .tsv file, what do you set the different fields as? Toki wo kakeru shoujo did it automatically I think, but I get errors when I try to import Death Note and FMA. Maybe it's something else - I tried looking at the .tsv files in notepad and changing the fields accordingly (I think) but Anki still went blank when it tried actually using the deck and then told me the usual "the reasons this deck doesn't work might be:...". Main reason, I suspect, is I Am Stupid. I've scanned through this thread and re-read the s2srs guide but I can't figure it out.

Open the tsv file with notepad, and take note of which fields come first. The tags are usually first, then pictures, audio and video, then expression.
