Hi there, everyone. Recently, I've been at a loss of whether or not I should go through with the idea of restoring my CPU to factory settings (for the very fact that I've had it for two years without ever doing so), but the idea of possibly losing my Anki deck with all of my manual settings not intact disturbs me, so I've put it off until I could find time to write about it here.
So, what I wanted to know is how the export feature really works. I have pictures imported to various cards in my decks, but will those be lost if I decide to export? I believe I saw somewhere in the Anki folder that it keeps back-ups of the images I've used, but after using the export feature, no image folder was available after I had unzipped the exported file. All there was was a readme, facts file, and an Anki deck file.
I guess I could try and import the deck into Anki to see if images show up, but then again, I'm not sure if that would help as I have the images on my PC still. I guess what I want to know is that if you exported an Anki file that has images, and opened that deck up on a CPU that didn't have those images, would they show up?

export will allow you to save your deck in another place, i.e. memory stick
however, if you sync it to anki online, you will be able to download it later and you won't lose any of the progress you have made. also you can review on anki's website

You could just make a zip file of the deck and the images folder if you are worried, although exporting does maintain the pictures.

You should always sync your deck. It gives you a safe backup and it let's you use anki from several computers (even if they don't have anki installed).

The export function is to save a subset of your deck (as in, only some tags) or to convert it to another format for use in another program.
