Character Rooster (alt. Primitive Representatives) - Surreal - 2009-05-30 So this is something I've been thinking about while mining stories the last 200 kanji or so - the most helpful stories I find are the ones that come on the numbers right after a new primitive has been presented and give a special character(Data)/location(batcave) to represent that primitive for the coming kanji series, also the ones that make 'extra' primitives (futon). So what I'd want ideally is a function for these stories running parallell to the normal study function, but is there something that comes close to this? Just a list of people's primitive representatives or something? I feel that what I want would pretty much be to the character/location creation the same as the study function to Heisig. And of course, something more 'colourful' like a superfat chocolate-eating jelly heart instead of just 'valentine' makes all the difference. Hope it makes sense, I really think this could help a lot of people; it would help me for sure. Character Rooster (alt. It has the primitives in it's own page with his terms for the primitives. However, it's hard to share in Googledocs or here due to his character scheme used. It "may" be a cool addition to the update of RevTK to have cards for primitives and our names/reasons for those primitives. Character Rooster (alt. Primitive Representatives) - screeech - 2009-06-07 I was just about to write a post asking a similar question. I love the pop culture character representations. I want to make a list, here's a few I know off hand: 人 (person, 951) = Mr. T 夫 (husband, 838) = Homer Simpson What are the rest? Character Rooster (alt. Primitive Representatives) - vosmiura - 2009-06-08 Here's some I use. right side of 情 = Data (from Star Trek) 糸 = Spiderman 辰 = Bruce Lee 曲 = Bender (from Futurama) right side of 候 = Old sage (person + walking stick) X part of 希 = Wolverine from X-men. Character Rooster (alt. Primitive Representatives) - Nukemarine - 2009-06-08 Person 人 - Batman Woman 女 - Wonder Woman Finger 扌 - ET Emotion/Heart 忄- Tin Man Human Leg Dog 尤 - Chronic Insult Comic Tree 木 - Treebeard at times Earth with legs and Earth 坴 - Frodo in the Shire Earth with legs and walking legs 夌 - Frodo in the Fellowship Character Rooster (alt. Primitive Representatives) - Surreal - 2009-06-08 言 - Haruhi 耳 - Link (elfish ears. also I wanted to use him) right side of 投 - Iceman Hotty from Basquash ('throws missiles', also DESTROY DESTROY makes for intense images) 力 - a friend of mine who's a bit narcissistic and always wants to get stronger. you ought to know someone like that, too top of 賞 - Gintoki from Gintama (has bladder problems and needs to go to the 'outhouse' all the time) 手 - Master Hand from SSB left side of 指 - Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star (if you look him up you'll know why. oh yes you will know) edit for dumb: I got my manly man anime mixed up. Kenshiro is from Ken the Great Bearfist, of course. lower right of 瞬 - CSI (I don't even know the dude's name but just the image of that smartass with his constant putting on sunglasses coupled with "YEAAAHHHHH" is enough) and my best prim rep so far: 人 : because Heisig mentioned its primitive will be used time and time again I brought out Big Boss, the no 1 person ever, from MGS for this. The reason it works so good is it's not really just Big Boss; it's the whole MGS universe. So if I throw in a character, gameplay element, Metal Gear or ANYTHING from MGS, then I know that mnemonic has the MGS/person primitive. Of course, I have to be a bit careful about not inserting things like "generic gun from MGS" so I mix it up and think it's more than just a MGS reference but MGS is so colourful and powerful an image it's not much of a problem. It seemed to me like this is something the Movie Method already does too. Oh and another thing I've figured out over the last couple hundred kanji is that it's not overly important if the connection between the original meaning and the prim rep is obvious - as long as you decide "THIS is my prim rep for this kanji" and it's something distinct+colourful/personal that you'd think it's fun to make stories with, it'll work. For example, I chose Haruhi for 'talk' because she always talks a lot but the connection isn't very strong. After using Haruhi as the prim rep a couple times however, there were no problems whatsoever. Besides, you can still use the original meaning when it fits better. Hope this helps! Shellfish 貝 - Spongebob Squarepants See 見 - Mike Walzowski (Monsters, Inc) Felt 皮 - Sully (Monsters, Inc) Old West 価 - Woody w/ cowboy hat (Toys) Pig 豕 - Miss Piggy Broom, crown, crotch 侵 - French Maid Character Rooster (alt. [Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days] "child" = Yotsuba [Yotsuba&!] "graveyard" = Guan-Coo [Dragon Drive] ...of course, I am only at 107, but I read parts of the book ahead of time... ...now to find a primitive for Kingdok [Bone] and Touhou! Character Rooster (alt. Primitive Representatives) - yudantaiteki - 2010-03-03 I was wondering what the hell this had to do with roosters (I was expecting 鶏 or something like that). |
