Japanese "Slice-of-Life" Blogs - blackmacros - 2009-05-29

I'm interested in getting some recommendations for some Japanese "slice of life" blogs that give some insight into Japanese culture and what its like to live in Japan.

Right now I'm following:

J-list blog http://www.peterpayne.net/
Gaijinsmash http://www.gaijinsmash.net/

But I would really like to find other interesting blogs to read. Japanese or English; although I assume this type of blog will be more common in English.

Anyone got some good recommendations?

Some stuff on the first one is interesting but some stuff bugs the hell out of me.

E.g.
Quote:Still, there are some barriers to learning Japanese that must be overcome, starting with the two syllable-based writing systems, hiragana (the wavy looking one) and katakana (the boxy, masculine looking one), which you can tackle by memorizing the shapes and what sound they make (we can help). Kanji is also no small challenge unless you happen to come from China, although you'd be surprised how much you can read with just a few hundred characters under your belt after a year or two of study. Grammatically there are some confusing areas, such as having to get used to two different verbs for to be (in a place), aru (ah-ROO) for inanimate objects like a car or building, and iru (ee-ROO) for anything that's alive, like people or animals.
.

Ok, guy. Year or two, 100?

Wtf is he talking about ahroo and erroo for. I DONT SPEAK YOUR LAANG-U-AGE.

Yeah I chuckled a bit reading that; the 'language' parts of the blog are very much aimed at the average, non-Japanese-learning, non-Heisger.

I quite enjoy the stuff about Japanese culture, and life in Japan though.

JList's Peter may live in Japan and have a Japanese wife/extended family, but his knowledge of Japanese culture & Japan is pretty superficial. I somehow ended up on his mailing list awhile ago (and just as mysteriously ended up off of it about 8 months ago) and would always spot several gaping errors in each one.

He does have certain insights, but they are limited to a gaijin raising ハーフ kids in the countryside.

Thats kind of why I was hoping for more recommendations. Do you know anyone who writes (more accurately) on this topic?
