Tae Kim sentences on Anki? - Shtephen - 2009-05-29

Does somebody have or has somebody already posted something that has all of Tae Kim's sentences on an easily down loadable format for Anki? Just checking because I would like a Tae Kim sentence deck but I'm way to lazy to make one. Thanx...

There is a link to a tae Kim spreadsheet (among other things) in this thread, first post:

Those should already be available as a shared deck on Anki. I'll recheck.

I checked the shared decks and didn't see anything.

Thanx Nukemarine. how did you put that text box thing in there for writing the answers? I was not aware Anki had such a thing.

It's been in the last few updates. You can set it via deck properties when you organize how the items are arranged on the cards.

Well thanx again for making my life easier and providing me with some new insight on my uses with Anki.

Amazing, thanks! But this deck does not play the audio. Why is that?

Tae Kim sentences on Anki? - mafried - 2009-05-29

Probably because the Anki shared server does not host media files.

So will I have to download every sound file individually?

The File>Download>Shared Decks feature supports media just fine. Have a look at the smart.fm deck for proof.

In my opinion, you will be better off going through the actual Tae Kim website, and as you read and learn, add the sentences. It will take just as long as copying it from a spreadsheet.

And the second reason is because most people who go on it already have a basic udnerstanding of Japanese and you might not want to add every single one, particularly in the beginning.

You are going to have to read it to know what the sentences mean anyway, so I would just add them as you read the sections.

About the audio files: They were made with a TTS engine, so you're not missing much. There's a link to the audio files in one of these threads. I can't upload them to RTK as my connection is way to wonky. Ah, the glory that is the Djiboutian telecom system.

Resolve, I noticed that, now I assume I have to do a database scan to convert the multimedia files then Anki will zip them along with the regular cards?

Cloud, I also advocate reading the website as you go along with the deck. It's how I did it. I just didn't copy in much from the website, I imported a spread sheet. In addition, just because a card is in the deck does not mean you can't delete it later.

For me, I think I learn a sentence by writing it out. The annoyance of copy/paste, convert to kana, check for errors, type in grammar note, develop sound file for each and every card just does not do it for me. For others, I'm sure they learn by typing out the sentence into Anki. We'll each learn our own way, and the options are there to take advantage of it.
