Experiences with movie method/kanji town - mafried - 2009-05-13
In kanji town the location is what tells you the pronunciation. Using Alyks' demo post as an example, any kanji whose story is set in the world of "Pulp Ficiton" is pronounced KOKU. If you forget the story for one KOKU kanji, it doest change the fact that the others are still set in "Pulp Fiction" and so are unaffected.

Think of Movie Method (or Kanji Town or Memory Palace) like a logical extension of Heisig. In Heisig, you're given a primitive and taught all the kanji with that primitive. You try to use the same image in all your stories for that primitive.
So, now the onyomi is the "primitive" but your using a larger concept such as a location or a movie. Just like you won't remember every kanji for one tree primitive, you won't remember every kanji for your "Lord of the Rings" movie. However, if given a tree primitive, you probably can write out quite a few kanji. Similarly, given a movie (or an onyomi you've attached to that movie), you can write off quite a few kanji as you go through the scenes.
Where Movie Method is not exactly Kanji Town is that your locations change, but the pronunciation is staying the same because the locations will still be in the same movie. I'm assuming this now, so don't quote me.
Anyway, I'm glad that interest has come back to Alyks' movie method. It got me re-interested in systematically learning onyomi (after a DRAMATIC failure trying RTK2 with Trinity). Yeah, I've put it off for 8 months in favor of finishing up iKnow and Tae Kim, but I'm back into it around the time this thread popped up. Hopefully this will push me to finish and post my results. I'm upto 550 so only 1/4 of the way done after 10 days (oh so very slow), but maybe only 5 days have I actually worked on it.

Kind of like this: I know "New 新", and "Parent 親" is "しん", so I'm not going very detailed with how I put that kanji in the movie for "The Mummy しん". However, both are being associated with Brendon Frasier's character anyway, due to having the same primitive.
With Goodwill 款 and Tolerant 寛, I have a harder time putting those in "Star Trek かん" partly due to never having learned a word for them. So there I might make use of the primitives to cement it. For now, I have it at the return of Spock's mind on Vulcan where ... well, not important.
Guess it's like those that start RTK after having a background in Japanese. You still don't want to skip kanji you know, but you might skimp a bit on the story (I did that with horse and go and man when I started).

Hey Alyks, how exactly do I get notepad to recognize the font provided in the pack? I placed the font in my windows font folder and rebooted but when I copy and paste from the spreadsheet it just gives me a bunch of random symbols.

You can't; you need a rich text editor that will let you specify the font for those characters only.

Don't know if that will work but it's always worth a shot.

Think he means click "Format" -> "font" while in notepad.
Have you tried adjusting the settings in the control panel yet?

To use the font, just copy the Paladin.ttf file somewhere (desktop, wherever, as long it is outside of the zip) go to Control Panel... Fonts.. which will open up a font list window, and then just drag and drop the Paladin.ttf file onto the font list.
Come to think of it, you can probably just drag it straight out of the zip file.
