Where to Find volume 1 - esgrove - 2007-02-16

Hello,

I've had so much trouble finding a copy of Remembering the Kanji: Volume 1. I originally tried to order it from Amazon.com in October. After waiting for the six weeks that it said it would take to ship, I got an email saying it would be delayed for another month! I then decided that amazon directly couldn't be trusted, so I ordered a used copy from one of their resellers. I tried three times, and each time I waited a week before receiving an email stating that they were out of stock and couldn't ship it. amazon doesn't have it, no stores around even come close to having it, and I can't find it anywhere.

I'm currently using a copy from a university library (a university to which I don't belong, but I've convinced a friend to continuously renew it for me), but I'm moving to Japan this week and won't be able to continue using a rented copy.

Does anyone know where I could a get a (preferably new) copy online? I don't use ebay, and I haven't been able to locate another place to get it. Would they have it at any bookstores in Japan? I'm about 1/4 of the way through the book and have several hundred flashcards, after having studied Japanese for years with inconsistent results, this is the first system that I've been able to make a regiment out of and would hate to abandon it when I need it most.

RTK 1 is in the process of being reprinted, and that's why you can't find it anywhere. There may be nothing to do but hang in there until it becomes available again. :/

But even if you have to set it aside for a while, definitely don't ditch the system. Maybe just stick to what you've finished for now until you can continue.

Sorry I can't be any more helpful.

Keep your eye on this page and you can order direct from Heisig (when it becomes available that is).

The 5th edition is now scheduled for May 2007, according to the publisher.

After an exhaustive search, I was finally able to obtain a copy from Schoenhof's Foreign Books (http://www.schoenhofs.com) last week. You might want to call them before placing your order to make sure they still have it in stock.

This was a real problem for me a couple of months ago. Does anyone know if Heisig is getting more popular? Fabrice is the website getting more popular?

Anyway, I got mine (a used one) from http://www.biblio.com

I don't have a hard copy of the book. I only have the PDF and study with my laptop at work. It works just as well, In fact, being able to search for words in the PDF is much easier than paging through the index of a book, IMO. My friend who has a real copy of the book uses the PDF too.

I have an extra copy of RTK I (4th edition, 5th printing), totally unused. I'd be happy to give it to someone looking for one. No charge except the air mail postage from Spain - in exchange possibly for a book via amazon or whatever.

I'm interested in knowing why the publisher wants to put out a new hard copy version RTK. For me especially, it would have been awesome to be able to buy an ebook and get it instantly. I have no use for paper versions. They're heavy.

Sure, ebooks are a little harder to flip through, but with a properly done linked index and properly done linked table of contents this becomes moot.

Hardback probably has a higher profit margin.
