I just reached the heart primitive Help! - bassxx2099 - 2009-04-18

I find it really hard to come up with stories for frames 618-636 with state of mind. On top of that most people say to use Data but I have never seen Star Trek. Should I use a different character to represent the primitive or keep with state of mind, and for those who have finished RtK 1 is there any recommendation for a different character.

I think you could pick anyone or anything to represent state of mind, as long as it's something concrete that you can easily make stories with. What's your favorite character from your favorite show, for example? That character should be easy to make stories with

'State of mind' works perfectly for me.

You have to imagine being in the state of mind described.

618 ... I see myself being so busy walking along that I don't even notice that people perish in an earthquake.

619 ... Ecstasy tablets are the work of the devil, and create a 'state of mind' in those who take them, that leads to their death in some cases.

620 ... When I'm studying my kanji I have a 'state of mind' that 'spans' several hours, thus allowing myself to apply constancy to my learning.

And so on, and so on.

I wrote 'Data' for all of my stories, but I've never seen the show either. I really imagine it as being H.E.L.P.eR. from the Venture Brothers. Maybe that'll work?

Me, too. You don't *have* to do anything but follow the book. The less you deviate (I'm not suggesting that you never deviate), the better you will probably be in the long run.

I've been a Star Trek fan since long before there was a Data. I never cared much for it/him. I don't need him in my stories. You probably don't, either.

I used state of mind for some of the kanji, it IS a fitting image for most of them. However, I rely extremely heavily on visual memory and state of mind isn't really possible to visualize. If you're like me, you're going to want to use something else for most of the kanji, but it doesn't have to be data, or a robot. It can be anything you want but make sure it has a connection to feelings or emotions. Data is good because he has none. You could pick your ex girlfriend because she makes you feel a lot of them. Anything like that will be very easy to use.

I used *state of mind* as well. Most of them seemed pretty easy, I think. Just try it, stick with it for a while, really take time to consider the story and visualize it and connect all your neurons from the parts of the story to the keyword and the kanji and you'll be to 637 in no time. Smile

I finnaly did it! I used Lelouch from Code Geass to represent state of mind since his mind dwells on philsophical concepts. Everytime I tried to review from the keyword and use state of mind I could never quite relate state of mind to the keyword. However when I used Lelouch a much more tangible object to visuallize it,it really stuck.

State of mind is really good.


I had troubles with that chapter too, because most of the keywords and meanings are all similar, they all have to do with grieving and lamentation which to me is all the same shit.

If State of mind is "really good", why did you have troubles with that chapter?

Data is a character from the series: Star Trek: The Next Generation. It's an android who doesn't have any feelings.

Oddly enough, the use of Bender and Data gave me the idea to use Tin Man from Wizard of Oz (technically a robot) for the state of mind primitive. After all, the tin man wanted a heart, and I remember being a heart shaped medallion in the movie. He worked pretty well in the stories that came up in RTK3.

I didn't need too give state of mind any character. State of mind kanji mostly all descibe various states of mind. Though Einstein would have been an intersting choice maybe.

For 'state of mind' I used Bonnie Tyler and for 'valentine' I used George Clooney. I don't understand why 'state of mind' has to be about a robot. I just thought of things related to the word 'heart' and immediately recalled the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Provided the image is strong in your mind, you can pick whatever you want, surely?

It has the shape of the "horn of plenty" and the "mexican country shape".
You can think of me leaving my heart in Mexico when away!

Heart - I always envision a disembodied, pulsating, wet, juicy human heart in the story.

State of Mind - A tall, wooden staff with two human hearts dangling from the top. (since that's what it looks like to me)

Valentine - big pink heart-shaped cardboard valentine with chocolates in it.

Good point. When I was getting help on my handwriting, and I was writing 優しい, my Japanese friend explained the last two strokes of 心 exactly like that. Good observation, truly.
