All About Particles は and が - bodhisamaya - 2009-03-22
This is a list I put on smart.fm but I thought I would post it here as well. Perhaps it would be of benefit to some. Also the list I put up has no native audio. My Japanese girlfriend will be away until June so the list is kind of lame with no native readings. So if someone with a Japanese significant other would like to create another list using this information you are welcome to.
These are は and が example sentences from All About Particles from Naoko Chino. They are in the order from the book so it can be cross-reference easily. I triple checked for typos but I did take the liberty to change some of the original kana into kanji for words like 出来る, 来る, 寿司.
は is used to set off a topic. It often but not always comes after the subject.
が 1. indicates the subject of the sentence or, with certain verbs and adjectives, the object.
2. Used between clauses and sometimes at the end of sentences, usually with the meaning ‘but”.
1 あそこに赤い本がありますね．あれは漢字の本です
あそこ に あかい ほん が あります ね ． あれ は かんじ の ほん です
Over there is a red book, right? It's a kanji book.
2 あの大学は, 四谷駅の近くにあります
あの だいがく は , よつや えき の ちかく に あります
That university is near Yotsuya station
3 明日は日曜日です
あした は にちようび です
Tomorrow is Sunday
4 鯨は魚ではありません
くじら は さかな で は ありません
The whale is not a fish
5 あさっては日曜日ですね．違います．明日が日曜日です

8 漢字は難しいですが, 日本語の文法はあまり難しくないんです

Kanji are difficult, but Japanese grammar is not very difficult.

I am not sure. For an explanation as to why one particle is chosen over another, one has to consult the book. I have a picture of it on the display page. It is sort of an unpaid advertisement for the book as well I suppose. I changed some of the sentences to include more kanji than what is in the book (and corrected some typos) so it is not an exact duplicate.

I'd suggest changing some names around, and replacing certain nouns and adjectives. One or two sentences alone wouldn't pose a problem, but if those are *all* verbatim change is necessary.

Hmm. I kind of felt it was advertisement for the author and would sell more books actually. Copyright issues are a very confusing thing in the information age. All forms of media are being downloaded on various websites for free with minor changes if any. I was starting a new list for も, と, and や. Maybe I should hold off on that.

I'm just saying that if you're leaving the list in such an open place etc, you have a lot more to answer for so to speak. You might say you're just advertising the book but unfortunately that doesn't change anything in the face of copyright. I could say I'm advertising the new Metallica album by letting all my friends download it but I doubt Mertallica would agree. For the same reason, Lucasarts shut down anything which have any connection to star wars... Square shuts down any fanbased game which has elements from the Chrono Series.
If I were you, I would mail the makers of the book and ask if it's alright for you to make that list since people who do not own the book can access is freely. Either that or I would keep the list hidden, let people mail you for it or something like that.

It was not my motivation of course to advertise the book but I think the author and publisher benefit from exposure. I might try changing names as kazelee suggested to the 50 most popular Japanese names and cities in place of the author's choices and giving credit to Naoko Chino for the sentence structure.
It is difficult for me take on any project unless I feel others are benefiting as well. What ever I do for only myself is an inefficient use of time. I most likely would not be motivated to create a private list. That is why I would not have finished RTK if I wasn't able to share what I created under shared stories.

I own the particles book. Currently reading it, and looking forward to doing the iknow list after that. The sentences themselves are interesting, but far more so in conjunction with the explanations in the book. It's a pretty good book, BTW. It isn't cumbersome like some grammar. Concise explanations and clear examples.
Bodhisamaya, I asked Mrs. Kame to help with the audio for those sentences, but she says we're too busy at the moment - and she should know!

Oh no, my ANKI DECK, I have made it broken with these sentences, I can know how many more sentenses are wrong such that!!!

You could sort your facts by when they were created. All the ones you imported from this list should be imported at the same time so they should appear together.

What are you talking about ppminhphung? You're over-reacting a tad to one typo out of 82 sentences.
Thank you for pointing out where I typed 使った instead of 作った though. Even my Japanese girlfriend missed that one. I corrected it here and on iknow. I spent a lot of time re-reading the sentences to avoid typos but it seems I missed at least one. Please point out any other mistakes you may have found.

Update. 人美チャン read the sentences for me last night so there is now audio. For some reason it does not show up if you look at the list of sentences but it works fine in the iknow application
