Hi everyone,

Need some help with these two sentences.
There were some translations out there for these two sentences but they don't sound right to me for some reason...

Here is how I interpret them.

愛には愛で感じ合おうよ

Love is when 'loving feelings' come together.

硝子ケ-スに並ばないように

Don't line it up in a glass casing.

Please advise on how far off am I from the actual meaning of these sentences?

愛には愛を感じ合おうよ - As for love, Let's feel love each other.

This doesn't make much sense, but nether does the original sentence.

ガラスケースに並ばないように - to not to be displayed in a showcase.

Grammatically this could be asking or ordering someone not to line up in/by a glass case, but ガラスケースに並ぶ is almost like a cliche for "being displayed in a showcase" and it feels more natural to me to purse this "ように" as specifying a purpose.

Hope this helps.

Lesson: don't try to learn Japanese from ambiguous love songs. Big Grin

lol... I guess I should have started from some children song like Ponyo on the cliff...
I'm learning this old song (i.e. Say Yes by Chage & Aska) in order to sing it during my karaoke sessions with friends...

I found it easier to remember the lyrics when I understand what the song is expressing... Is it not a good method to learn Nipponese from it or is this song just too ambiguous? Sad My level of Japanese isn't good enough to understand what the discussions on both links are, thanks for the links though iSoron Smile

mamasan: thanks for the clarification.

Surprisingly, your translation actually does make sense when I take it into the context of the Jdrama that this song is the theme for. The background of the drama (101 proposals) is actually about a guy going for his 101 Omiai with a girl whose bf passed away for sometime and he fell in love with the girl. Does the sentence make sense to you then in this context?

Can I take this sentence "ガラスケースに並ばないように - to not to be displayed in a showcase" vaguely to mean 'In order to not make love something just for display?'

Oh, I remember that show!!! The one 武田鉄矢 ran in front of a truck and went "僕は死にましぇん!" right? Wow I was like still a teen back then. Time flies.

Anyway, I just looked up the lyrics and it's actually ”愛には愛「で」感じ合おうよ” which makes more sense to me. That means "Let's Feel love each other with love" or "Let's 'counter' love each other with love", then following "ガラスケースに並ばないように" seems more like to mean "not to be commercialized, facade or superficial", like not to pretend to be cool or sophisticated or anything like that (it was 91' and people in Tokyo were like wanna be Hollywood stars back then). But as iSoron said, this song is REALLY ambiguous and could mean anything. I guess whatever your heart tells you is correct Smile
