Japan can act like anything is hardcore - Tobberoth - 2009-03-05 A popular topic from another forum I visit.
Japan can act like anything is hardcore - Rael89 - 2009-03-05 care to elaborate? Japan can act like anything is hardcore - nac_est - 2009-03-05 Hahaha! What manga is that? ヒカルのスムリエ? Japan can act like anything is hardcore - kazelee - 2009-03-05 I think he may be referring to the intensity and dynamism is something as simple as pouring chemicals. Barney Rubble. Japan can act like anything is hardcore - ghinzdra - 2009-03-05 If you were interested in wine (let alone french....) you would be shocked too pal.... but it's true that japanese have a knack to overdramatize the dullest thing in the world... I mean , who could have thought before hikaru no go appears on the shelves that a go manga could be this enthralling !!!? Anyone who got into the manga must have felt the tip of his fingers very itchy , this stirring desire to handle some go stones after reading some takonbon..... just to realize that unfortunetaly you don't fight uber classy thousand years old ghost in a black pitch room but rather some lame four-eyes geek (ochi and akira to a certain extent are the only likely character of the manga), that your fingers don't glow when you slam a stone on the board , and worst of all that noone gets a supernatural guidance which means you suck like hell for years and you'll never ever be even close to a pro level.... No it's just a boring strategy board game where you have to sit in a very uncomfortable position for hours . it's still an infuriating reading though . So yeah even the reading of the tax code or the phonebook could become harcore through a manga..... Japan can act like anything is hardcore - Ben_Nielson - 2009-03-05 I thought the text in the picture was pretty self explanatory. "Incredible." "Decantering from such a height." I laughed out loud. I didn't even notice there were words there. やっぱり Japan can act like anything is hardcore - woodwojr - 2009-03-05 That should be "decanting". ~J Japan can act like anything is hardcore - rich_f - 2009-03-05 Lol. Great stuff. And yeah, very Japanese. My favorite manga is Taimaishin, about an acupuncturist who fights all sorts of crimes with his needles... the best part was when he performed acupuncture on the Earth to heal it, with big giant needles. Hysterical. Another one of the over-serious line (that's still enjoyable) is Iron Wok Jan, where they rave for page after page about how great some obscure Chinese dish tastes. It's nuts. But the manga has some pretty good recipes in it, to be honest... Japan can act like anything is hardcore - Nukemarine - 2009-03-05 Yeah, remember that movie where Tom Cruise played the cocky young guy that was the best at something. What was the name of that movie? Or the one where this grand philosophy is built around doing an extreme sport. Name of the movie escapes me though. The one thing I've come to appreciate when learning Japanese (and learning about learning in the process) is there's nothing magical about a guy that's good at something he's done a lot and tries to get better over time. You just have TV shows, books (including manga) and movies that make it seem he's a talent for it. But yeah, I think there's a bit more over-dramatization in Japanese material. Japan can act like anything is hardcore - liosama - 2009-03-05 I don't see how that is Japanese at all. In chemistry we used to have such competitions :S?? We also used to have titration competitions, i.e who could get the most accurate percentage of a certain composition of chemicals in a solution. I found a cheaty way out (by mixing my solution with water until i got the lightest colour out which shows that i was closest to the actual mark, and i figured out the exact quantity mathematically, my teacher was impressed). This is hardly 'Japanesey' rather, something geeky aimed towards a geek series such as the manga you are reading (no offense to you or whatever, i respect geeks, i am one) Japan can act like anything is hardcore - QuackingShoe - 2009-03-05 What makes it more Japanese (and absolutely hilarious) is the reaction shot with the internal monologue
Japan can act like anything is hardcore - rich_f - 2009-03-05 Yeah, the reaction shot is priceless. Japan can act like anything is hardcore - nac_est - 2009-03-06 The flash of light near the head makes it one of those "holy s**t! I thought that was not physically possible!" moments. Then in the next tankobon everybody's doing it and we get to a higher level of godly techniques. I think I've seen it somewhere
Japan can act like anything is hardcore - wccrawford - 2009-03-06 Wait wait wait. Have you guys ever TRIED to decanter from such a height? I think if you ever did, you'd have more respect for how hardcore this really is. Especially if he was doing it with some that couldn't afford to be spilled! Joking aside, it really is tough. I would never consider trying it. It's craziness. Japan can act like anything is hardcore - nyquil - 2009-03-06 Tobberoth Wrote:A popular topic from another forum I visit.Hehe, 神の雫. I just read the first one in French and it was quite fun. I don't read much manga but I could see myself reading this one all the way if it stays good (6 volumes have been translated in French, 18 or 19 are available in Japanese). I'll buy the first few volumes in Japanese this summer and try to read them. It could be fun to learn some specialized wine vocabulary, though some of it may be French in katakana. I only play online, but battling a tough opponent, specially in a tournaments ( KGS Plus in my case ) can be a tense and exciting experience. It can be frustrating at first, but there's plenty guidance available out there. More people give it up because of the pressure, than the boredom. When you win you get the combined satisfaction of creatively solving complex, interconnected problems and beating an opponent. Like chess, I guess. Do people find chess boring? My only criticism of Hikaru no Go is that it makes attaining pro status seem doable, when it is in fact next to impossible. The Japanese sitting posture does take time getting used to, I hear. Its quite interesting because the main character's "godliness" or so to speak resembles that of the protagonist from 医龍-Team Medical Dragon.Tobberoth Wrote:A popular topic from another forum I visit.Hehe, 神の雫. I play chess for fun occasionally and even I have to admit it's a very boring game. Especially to watch. Serious yawn. Japan can act like anything is hardcore - woodwojr - 2009-03-06 I'm not sure when chess would be boring to play unless one of the players should have resigned or offered draw already, but you need fairly good players to make it interesting to watch. ~J Japan can act like anything is hardcore - cb4960 - 2009-03-06 From the manga: 「す...すごい!」 「あんな高さから...デキャンタージュを...」 Masters of drama. Actually, the second line should probably be: 「あんな高さから...デカンタージュを...」 Japan can act like anything is hardcore - EratiK - 2010-09-23 Tobberoth Wrote:A popular topic from another forum I visit. And chess is only boring when the opponents take too much time to play their turn. Quick games (30s per turn or less) can really be breath taking. Japan can act like anything is hardcore - ta12121 - 2010-09-23 I can't tell you how much times in anime/manga.
