負う価値 - KREVA - 2009-03-01

Just ran into 負う価値 while reading, and it really stumped me. Here's the original sentence below:

「その為のリスクなら、俺には負う価値十分なわけだ」
If it is to risk that, taking my chances is enough for me. (?)

I know what the two words mean individually, but together they don't make much sense to me, and I've already thought about it too much to think about it any differently. I'm under the impression it means something like taking ones chances. Is this right?

I checked this in google, and, surprisingly, many of the sentences that use this have リスク but I want to make sure before I add this in my SRS.

Here are some random sentences I found from google:

1.そのためにリスクを負う価値がある
2. この未熟な技術を使うリスクを負う価値はありません。
3. でも、リスクを負う価値がある土地なんだ。

I think it can be simplified to "I think the risk is worth it."

Of course depends on context and what not.

You've broken the sentence down the wrong way. 価値 doesn't go with just 負う, it goes with リスクを負う.

リスクを負う means to take on risk.
リスクを負う価値 means the value in taking on that risk
リスクを負う価値がある means there is value in taking the risk

The sentence is written in a conversational manner and the sentence construction looks lazy to me.

そのためのリスクなら can be thought of as "if that's what the risk is for"
The 俺には is stuck in there just to say, "for me"
わけだ is a grammatical construct that is probably best described in a grammar textbook, instead of by me here.

「その為のリスクなら、俺には負う価値十分なわけだ」
If that's what the risk is for, then for me, there's plenty of value in taking that risk.

Thanks for everyone's help although most of your versions roughly translate into the same overall meaning. And I agree that the sentence is weird; the line is actually from the manga サムライチャンプルー (which proves to have an abundance of weird slang/sentence structures etc.) being spoken by a weirdo nonetheless. At least now I comprehend a clearer understanding, and I am grateful for that.

Also, someone was asking about context. More context would be the the guy was stating a series of dangerous plans to help some troubled people out with the possible result being to bring the town back to normal making him happy again above all else as the people who he is helping has caused a stir in the atmosphere of the town, which he does not like (the peple being helped are in trouble with the law to be exact). This happiness was the purpose in the sentence I was having trouble on.
