Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - spoonsman - 2009-02-24 Back in October of 2007, just three months after moving here, a local news station interviewed me after seeing my unicycling around the city. The video is over on YouTube. There are also more details over at my blog, if you feel so inclined to read about behind-the-scenes and such. Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - Katsuo - 2009-02-24 I've never tried unicycling myself (but would like to). Did you know that Jack Halpern, editor of various kanji dictionaries, is an enthusiast? Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - kazelee - 2009-02-24 After watching you jump up on that unicycle like that I have to ask... do you ever have to ice them down? Edit: Okay, I just read your blog. The question still stands. Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - spoonsman - 2009-02-24 Katsuo Wrote:I've never tried unicycling myself (but would like to). Did you know that Jack Halpern, editor of various kanji dictionaries, is an enthusiast?Yeah, Mr. Halpern is also famous within the unicycling community. When you add together that I'm involved in both of the fields he tends to have made a name in (unicycling and Japanese/kanji), I invariably come across his name relatively often. But yeah, I think it's pretty cool what he's done for both fields. kazelee Wrote:After watching you jump up on that unicycle like that I have to ask... do you ever have to ice them down? When you do the particular mount they showed (called a suicide mount, which isn't the normal mount), you actually land on the pedals first, THEN you adjust the seat so you don't squish your balls when you actually sit down. If you watch where they show the suicide mount at 4:30 you'll notice that I keep my weight on the pedals while I ride away, then once I'm sure I have my balance I adjust my little friends on the seat before sitting completely down. Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - cerulean - 2009-02-24 haha nice! The scene with the kids unicycling behind you was priceless. ![]() Must have been lots of fun. Heh, I wish I had a skill like that to offer. Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - wccrawford - 2009-02-24 cerulean Wrote:Heh, I wish I had a skill like that to offer.Agreed. I like bicycles enough that a unicycle has always been a dream... Sadly, it's a dream I don't seem to have time for. Maybe I'll make time. -ponder- Not a big one, though. That's insane.
Unicycling on the news in Fukushima - spoonsman - 2009-02-24 It took me a week to learn the basics of how to ride... it's really not as hard as people think. I once had a friend who learned to ride straight (not turn yet) in the course of 2 hours. |
