I have this Taiwanese friend Yen-Yu at school and we both take Japanese and we always turn things into a competition( drawing, Japanese, jokes... anything ) and today he thought a great thing would be to have an English teaching competition.

we each give a Japanese friend english lessons and then three months from now we are going to see who can speak better english. You have to speak in Japanese though when you're explaining grammar and such. so what do you guys think of this idea?

Too many confounding variables for a fair contest, but if you're not laying money on it do it if it sounds fun.

Edit: also, make sure both friends involved are comfortable with the idea of being the subject of a contest.

I kind of see it as an advantage really, I give free English lessons to this hot Japanese girl already, she teaches me some Japanese as well ussually, so this means more second language for everybody Smile

No, the point, which was stated in the topic, was a cool Japanese learning idea. He -already- deals with that girl all the time anyhow, so this isn't a chance to to get in her パンツ. It's just the same as ever.

I agree with anon that this isn't a 'Japanese learning idea'. If you're teaching English, you aren't learning Japanese from it.

In the original post it did say they would teach English in Japanese. Of course it never really works out because the hot girl is always better at English than you are.

I guess it's more "practicing" Japanese than learning.

It depends on too many factors. For instance:

- Are they really hot?
- Are they also using the language as pretext to second intentions?

If they are both 'yes', I wouldn't mind a test ride.
