So, yeah, it's a little morbid, but it's always interesting to see old-style japanese: http://www.pinktentacle.com/2009/02/gas-attack-vintage-air-raid-defense-posters/

Heh, the first time I read it, I thought: Is this really Japanese?
The text is read right to left!

Heh, took me a little bit of trying to figure out what スガ was before I realized that they were still writing horizontal text right-to-left then.

Edit: too slow!

War is sick. Cool pictures from the past though.

Reading right to left like that destroys my mind. Left to right, top to bottom, not a problem. I think even bottom to top wouldn't be that bad. But that right to left business, my brain just won't wrap around it.

I think I see why it's difficult. Part of it is I look at kanji individually top-down and left-right. When I'm done writing one kanji, I can move on to the next easily below or to the right due to the position of my pen. In that way, I'm also "reading" the kanji. Going left horizontally just doesn't flow right.

Kind of reminds me of times I'll watch the TV in the mirror (I'm on my laptop, in front of the mirror with the TV on behind me), and I'll catch a word that looks wrong. Well, it's backwards and reversed order.

Women who sleep with husbands that eat chili dogs and drink beer all day build a tolerance to most lethal gases.

Exactly the same thing I noticed. A picture can speak more than many words...
