JLPT 2008 Results - atreya - 2009-02-20

Passe 3kyuu with 384/400. So close to 400, yet so far. Sad

Kanji/Vocabulary = 100/100
Listening = 87/100 (I blame it all on the horrible acoustics of the room)
Grammar/Reading = 197/200

I am planning to take up 2kyuu by the end of this year. Hoping to pass it. ^^

Nope, it says specifically that you can never change the level you'll take after submitting the application. If you aren't sure what level you want to take you just have to apply for both. If yours says any differently it must be unique to the testing location in your (non-Japan) area.

The U.S. JLPT results are up. I passed the 1-kyuu.

Man you guys are good...

JLPT 2008 Results - Zarxrax - 2009-02-27

I failed 3-kyuu
Sad

It's kind of sobering, as I thought my Japanese would be better than that by this point. I was fairly close to passing though, so I didn't fail by a huge margin. I am kind of mad though, because the girls who were giving us the test explained the directions incorrectly for the listening portion of the test. Many of us in the room answered some of the questions incorrectly because of that. I don't know if it would have made enough of a difference for me to have passed the test, but it does make me wonder. I can't blame them though, I should have spoken up.

Congratulations. Although you clearly should have gone for 1級. Tongue

Hard luck to Zarxrax. As long as you enjoy Japanese, who cares what the JLPT says.

While you're right on the one hand, on the other hand it may be time to evaluate how much he actually likes Japanese versus how much time he's willing to spend. I know a lot of unmotivated Japanese majors that say they love Japanese, watch anime, but can't put it together enough to actually learn Japanese to a decent level. The problem is that nobody in their life will ever call them on it because foreign language learning is at such an awful state in the US. If you ever took a foreign language in school then you get to say you know that language, versus other places in the world where they speak two languages but don't count the other language that they're not quite fluent in. I don't know. I guess this is my own rant, but it bugs me when what people say they want to do and what they actually do don't match up.

JLPT 2008 Results - MrMorden - 2009-03-04

3級: 75, 91, 128 -- total 294/400. Better than I expected on listening, but need to spend more time on grammar. Still, a pass is a pass.

I've passed 3 level after lot of alone work. Points are not too impressive (especially half for listening), but the most important is the fact.

JLPT 2008 Results - misha - 2009-03-06

I passed 2級.

Writing/vocab: 61/100
Listening: 70/100
Reading/grammar: 200
Total: 275/400 (68.5%)

I'm a bit disappointed with the result. I was expecting over 70% doing past papers. I scored 70 in JLPT 2007, and that test seemed a hell of a lot harder than 2008.

For those that did the past papers, how do you think JLPT2008 compares to the previous years?

I didn't bother taking any past tests when I did my 適当 jlpt study, but I did take a peek at one from the early 90s and it was extremely easy compared to the 2008 that I took.

2008 2級 was definitely a little easier overall than previous years. I took pretty much every one of the past tests for practice before taking it for real. The 2007 test was a little too hard and so they swung the other way on it for 2008. Though, there were some almost impossible questions they seemed to toss in to even out the scores. The one that always sticks out to me is the money question from the listening where you have to answer how much money the guy has.

The JLPT tests seem to have been getting harder every year since the beginning. They just made the 2007 test TOO hard and had to backtrack a bit.

..from what I hear.
