JLPT 2008 Results - shneen - 2009-02-13 Mailman just stuck mine in the door a few minutes ago.... No good news here, but I wasn't expecting any... haha. I did do better than I thought I did though.... 222 on 1kyuu. Soo.... how'd you do? JLPT 2008 Results - wrightak - 2009-02-13 I now have proof that you can pass with a hangover: 297 on 1kyuu. Only 56/100 on moji/goi so the other two pulled me up. Hard luck Sheen. JLPT 2008 Results - ghinzdra - 2009-02-13 wrightak Wrote:I now have proof that you can pass with a hangover: 297 on 1kyuu. Only 56/100 on moji/goi so the other two pulled me up. Hard luck Sheen.Congrats!!! especially since you have been able to pull it off with a hangover ! It compels respect . How much time has passed since you started studying japanese? JLPT 2008 Results - activeaero - 2009-02-14 How exactly does the scoring work when you say you got a "222"? JLPT 2008 Results - ghinzdra - 2009-02-14 activeareo : I don't know if you already passed a JLPT exam or a mock exam for training but your global mark is on 400 points divided between kanji , listening , reading , grammar . So shneen got 222 on the 400 points of thoses four parts. For JLPT 2, 3 , 4 the minimum requirement is 60% . So it's 240 points . for JLPT 1 it's raised to 70% .So it's 280 points . If you want to know how those 400 points are divided it's insanely complex and you'd better buy some annals to get a good grasp on it . Basicaly there are parts (reading-grammar for instance) , sub parts (in 2KYUU grammar for instance there is a "choose the best illustration of an expression" sub part , in reading the lenght of the text varies) and sub sub parts ( ) . Each of those parts have different marks and different coefficient. There is very complex relation between all of them : because you have points for a sub sub part wich makes up the sub part mark . This sub part mark has a coefficient and you add it to other sub part mark wich makes the part mark . This part mark has also a coefficient and those points added to other parts give you your global mark .But I'll sum it up this way : basically the kanji part ,especially the first sub part wich is about reading , isn't worth the stress (doesn't mean you should ignore it though : even a single point can make the difference ) but the audio part and even more the reading-comprehension part really pays off . It's almost impossible to succeed the test if you fail the reading-comprehension part : you've got something like at least 150 points for only 24 questions . (while kanji must be on 50-60 questions for less points ) . Once again if you're really interested in figures even if you can have them on official website the best way to understand this is to pass a mock test and calculate your points .
JLPT 2008 Results - Nuriko - 2009-02-14 You guys got your results early *waitingwaiting* D: I know I passed though, because it was only JLPT4. I was aiming for at least 95% though so I'm curious JLPT 2008 Results - activeaero - 2009-02-14 Thanks for the scoring explanation. It seems if you really took the time to break down the scoring it could help tremendously in terms of knowing where to focus your efforts. JLPT 2008 Results - ghinzdra - 2009-02-14 Well actually I did the test and I knew in any case it would be a narrow escape because I had to learn all the 2KYUU grammar plus some kanjis plus improve my reading comprehension . And the mock test only confirmed this . I was ranged between 50% and 65% percent , the most hazardous zone . So I spent time to analyse where it paid off . But unfortunetaly within a short term I don't think you can improve in reading comprehension to the same extent you can improve in grammar or kanji reading . The kanzen and KO2001 have been of great help for those latter parts but when it comes to reading the only 100% reliable exercise is READ ! a lot ! Back then I studied japense for only a year and I spent at least 4 months to find the best way to study . So even if I was slightly better towar the end I was still really short for the reading :took me too much to process. This part is really about kanji reading habits and speed .As someone else said it's the 70 shortest minutes of your life . With everything I learned (1115 kanjis of KO really gives you 90% of a normal text and I don't use half of the grammar I learned for the 2KYUU) Japanese has really become a leisure (right now while I'm writing I'm playing to 逆転裁判 on my ds and it's just awesome . The BEST adventure game EVER for a student of the japanese language :because you have to read carefully everything what's been said , cross examin witnesses , notice and stress their blunder ,analyse your proof and think about the contradiction with the statements . Sometimes based on a tiny hint you really have to figure out what it could imply to attack the witness ) so I have improved a lot in the meanwhile . Even IF I fail for this first try, I definetely pass the next time . Hard luck Sheen.Nice work. And with a hangover to boot. I knew going into it I wasn't quite there yet.... and after the exam I wasn't figuring I would break the 200 mark. So all things considered, I'm happy with where I'm sitting for the next go around.(My moji/goi score didn't help me much either :S Need to get on that) Nuriko - We're in Japan, which is why ours are out earlier. The results in the states usually show up a couple of weeks after the ones in Japan are out. JLPT 2008 Results - johnzep - 2009-02-14 Passed 2kyuu with a 258. My worst section was the listening suprisingly. I usually got above 70% for all the practice listening, but on the real test I got 56%. A big part of my problem was people making noise turning pages, so I couldn't hear the question where they clue you in on what to listen for. I also got a couple lucky guesses on the reading section So maybe that was the universe compensating for noisy page turners ^_^ JLPT 2008 Results - Tobberoth - 2009-02-14 Congratulations everyone who passed their tests! Especially people who passed JLPT2 and ESPECIALLY people who passed JLPT1
JLPT 2008 Results - Ben_Nielson - 2009-02-14 No kidding, congrats. I'm wondering, after JLPT1 is it really all rainbows and sunshine?
JLPT 2008 Results - wrightak - 2009-02-14 ghinzdra Wrote:Congrats!!!Thanks! To be honest, the hangover wasn't so bad since I didn't have a headache. I was feeling really spaced out though and dehydrated. That evening I was exhausted. I started studying Japanese over 5 years ago. I think I could have passed JLPT 1 two years ago, if I'd concentrated and studied for it. The JLPT has a set syllabus and if you concentrate on that then you can pass - I didn't study any of the set vocab and it shows in my score for moji/goi. Last year I failed by a small margin. What's more satisfying is that I did absolutely nothing to prepare this time other than my normal study routine. I put all of the grammar points into Anki a year ago, my Japanese keywords project and spending everyday absorbed in Japanese - I started working in Japan for a Japanese company last May and I'm the only foreigner. When I failed last year, I had been working in London for a year and a half. Draw what conclusions you will. Congrats to everyone who passed and good luck to those waiting for results. JLPT 2008 Results - haabaato - 2009-02-15 congrats wrightak and other 2kyuu-ers! Wasn't sure if I passed or failed even after I graded my test with those Chinese-leaked answers, but the answer is.....drumroll......PASSED biatch! 288/400 on 1kyuu. Surprisingly, living in Japan has not helped with my listening, which was by far the worst, 60/100. time to quit my job!! JLPT 2008 Results - jondesousa - 2009-02-15 皆さん方、 本当におめでとうございます。 JLPT 2008 Results - duder - 2009-02-16 yeah!!!! i passed level 2 with a 282/400 exactly 2 years from knowing zero Japanese - congrats to everyone that didnt wuss out on test day (ive got a ton of friends that signed up and didnt even go) good luck to all of you abroad waiting for your results JLPT 2008 Results - captal - 2009-02-16 Passed 3級 - 270/400 writing/vocab 63/100 listening 57/100 Reading/Grammer 150/200 Surprising, because I thought I aced the listening- I was thinking 85% minimum. Haha, guess my listening still does suck. Reading/Grammar had given me the biggest problems in practice tests so that is where I spent the most time, and it shows. Guess those 10 questions I went back and changed the answers to in that section were mostly right ![]() Just found out I get a bonus from my company for passing (Interac- English company), so that's nice

JLPT 2008 Results - Jawful - 2009-02-16 2kyu Writing/Vocab 74/100 Listening 70/100 Reading/Grammar 143/200 Total 287/400 72% - Pass! Pretty stoked! Probably gonna study for 2kyu again and take it in the summer. I'd prefer to have the content down and pull a 90%+ before moving on. Taking the test is huge for motivation. JLPT 2008 Results - ghinzdra - 2009-02-16 yeah I'm totally dumbfounded .... sign up and not to go ????! what kind of commitment is that ? it's not like the appliance is cheap either .... I hope it wasn't the 2KYUU test : I thought starting 2KYUU this kind of test repelled dabblers.... well in a way if they signed up for and didn't show i guess it's the case

He was pretty choked but still took the test anyways and failed miserably.duder Wrote:congrats to everyone that didnt wuss out on test day (ive got a ton of friends that signed up and didnt even go)Wow. What a waste of money. Signup for our location was online and the radio button to select your level was set to 1 by default. dumb... When I was chatting with the proctors later (they were all friends of mine) they said about 3-4 people made the same mistake. JLPT 2008 Results - esgrove - 2009-02-16 I failed. Maybe a lot of people aren't especially proud to post that. As I may have said earlier, I seemed to have everything against me at the time: Fever, headache, hangover, and a broken heart. I got a clean 50% in every category of the 2級. Which surprised me because I thought that I had definitely done better in some categories than others. Anyway, this isn't a shock, I knew I had failed it the day before I took it, which is why I went out and got drunk. I don't plan on taking it again. If I were to return to those terrible little bubbles, it will only be for 1級, and only for a very good reason. JLPT 2008 Results - wrightak - 2009-02-16 esgrove Wrote:As I may have said earlier, I seemed to have everything against me at the time: Fever, headache, hangover, and a broken heart.Shit mate, that sounds awful. Hope things are a bit better now! 50% on 2kyuu on every category sounds pretty good considering your condition. JLPT 2008 Results - NightSky - 2009-02-16 Passed 二級 by the skin of my teeth, so I'm definitely happy. It was always going to be a close call as I think my level is bang on the 60% ish level, in almost every practice test I took I scored around the same as well. Fortunately it went fairly well for me. I thought I had *really* screwed the listening this time, I remember finding it tougher than the practice tests and definitely feeling frustrated part way through. In the end I didn't actually do much better than I'd done in the vocabulary section, which I'd felt confident with at the time. I think I essentially nailed the grammar and Kanji sections, and probably only just failed the others. Sounds about right for me, I've always been good at taking exams and going in with a decent strategy, I think its just my level of Japanese is only just about good enough for level two. Not really planning to take Ikkyuu this year, but I might take a crack just to see how far I've progressed. Passing this exam was always my goal for last year though (just over two years in Japan now) and I'm feeling satisfied!
