I've been googling quite a bit about this issue I'm having trying to upload my media files on subs2srs. Hopefully I can explain this problem clearly enough to get an answer!

I have everything ready to go, so to speak. My subtitle files work, and I've got my raw vids. However I keep getting this error message when I select a media file.

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. The system cannot find the file specified"

As of now, the files are just sitting in my Downloads folder. Should they be moved? And if so, where? Is there a specific way/preferred way I should organize my files before inputing into subs2srs?

Sorry if this question sounds a bit dumb, I'm just really psyched to use this program and want to get it working ASAP!

Perhaps cb4960 will step in with a better answer, but the first thing I'd try if I saw an error like that is to make a copy of the file to a simple directory with no spaces/special characters to see if that's an issue.

Ex: copy it to c:\tmp\foo.mkv etc

Try overture2112's suggestion.

If you still can't get it to work, you can email me the log file and I can take a look.

You'll commonly get this error if there are Japanese characters in the path name. Make sure your path is strictly ASCII chars and try it again.

Not sure. I'm not a copyright lawyer, and this stuff gets messy.

The "Pad Timings" feature isn't working for me. When I click Preview Audio it's working correctly. And when I click Go the file name changes according to the padding correctly. But the file itself not padded -- starts and stops at the original times with no padding.

I could swear this was working in the past, but maybe I was just tricked by the preview and filenames. I'm using the latest version 29.1, and I have the same problem with 28.3.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

● Upgraded ffmpeg.

I was just led here from this message:
Quote:cb4960, thanks for all your hard work, this program is great - I've just made my first deck, it's so easy to use!

My only problem/feature suggestion is a small one. The drama I'm using (Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo) has japanese srt subs captured directly from when it was broadcast on TV. Several times in the show, the character has a long speaking part, and so a sentence has to be continued into the next subtitle. To signify this, the end of the first subtitle contains a little → (indicating "to be continued").

I understand you can put before and after lines on the card to add context, BUT half a sentence that cuts off while the character is talking is not that useful to study.

This might be technically difficult, but it would be handy to be able to select 2 (or more) sequential cards in the "preview" mode, and combine them into 1 card. This takes the beginning time from the first card, the end time from the last card, and combines all the text with 1 long piece of audio.

A neater way might even be to combine cards that have a → or ... on the end of the L2 sub with the next card. However, as this is my first subs2srs drama, I'm not sure if this is common practise with japanese subs, or whether this feature would be redundant. Other long-term users might be able to shed more light - is this a common problem?

Anyway thanks again, keep up the good work!
Any development on this? This program is seriously the BEST but half sentences don't help me very much.

You can easily fix those using Aegisub.
Just ctrl+f to find the arrow symbol, then use the "join lines" option.

Hi,
Wonderful program ! Big thanks to the developer. I bow in front of you Big Grin

I would like to know if it could be possible in the advanced subtitles configuration to fuse some subtitles that are part of the same sentences but separated by a comma or missing point:

Example:

Code:
257
00:16:14,682 --> 00:16:18,185
Anyway, if Grandpa hadn't hit him,

258
00:16:18,269 --> 00:16:19,936
then none of youwould have been born.
Could the program generate a fusion of two subs: text and audio as well.

The result would be : "Anyway, if Grandpa hadn't hit him,then none of you
would have been born"
with screenshot from sub 1 or 2 and a merged audio from
00:16:14,682 to 00:16:19,936

I'll make an option were you can specify a list of continuation characters. For example ",→" would combine lines that end with either "," or "→". Been meaning to do this for a while, but hopefully I can add it soon.

I have just released version 29.3 of subs2srs.

Download subs2srs v29.3 via SourceForge

What Changed?

● Added the "Join lines that end with one of the following characters" option to the Advanced Subtitle Options dialog.

Use this option to combine partial lines into full sentences. For example, given these 3 lines:

LineA,
LineB,
LineC.

when this option is enabled and one of the provided characters is a comma, then these lines will be combined as follows:

LineA, LineB, LineC.

This option is enabled by default and the default list of characters is ",、→".

Hi, thank your for the new version.

1. As mentioned before, could it be possible also to fuse sentences based not only on presence but on a missing period (.) ending the sentence.
As long as no ending period is found, the merging process should continue (with maybe a limit but probably quite rare I suppose)

Example
Code:
sub1: Anyway, your Grandpa hit him with the car
sub2: and brought him into the house.
Those ones will be fused in one sentence: "Anyway, your Grandpa hit him with the car and brought him into the house" with the related audio.

2. Smart Audio Clip Pad Timings.
Let says I have defined a start pad timing of 250ms and my file contains 2 subs separated by 200ms.

Example
Code:
1
00:01:00,195 --> 00:01:03,600
No. No, don't be silly.

2
0:01:03,800 --> 0:01:05,190
Listen,this is very important. I forgot my video camera.
I will have for sub 2 a overlapping audio with:
-the text: Listen,this is very important. I forgot my video camera.
-overlapping audio:silly.Listen,this is very important. I forgot my video camera."
As you may have noticed, the audio contains the last word of the previous sub because the defined padding (250ms) make the audio start at 00:01:03,550 and picking up the last word of the overlapping sub.

Suggestion: the start pad timing will be applied only if it is not part of a previous sub duration and if the user want it as such. Maybe a message warning during the preview could appear or a warning icon for the related subs will help the user to identify those cases.

I don't know why, but I've never gotten this program to work properly for me. Whenever I follow the guide to import a subs2srs deck, I always end up with just 1 card and nothing more. What am i doing wrong?

Use subs2srs to Create Anki Decks Based on Your Favorite Movie or Show - cb4960 - 2015-04-25

@menosgrande,

1) I can probably implement this soon-ish.
2) Maybe for some version in the distant future.

@Termy,

No idea. Maybe ask the Anki support forum?

Quote:1. As mentioned before, could it be possible also to fuse sentences based not only on presence but on a missing period (.) ending the sentence.
I have found a workaround using Notepad++ and regular expression that will replace every sentence ending without a period with the character →

For example:

Quote:00:01:53,614 --> 00:01:57,784
the Pacific Nuclear research facility

11
00:01:57,868 --> 00:02:00,536
have denied the rumor that a case of missing plutonium
Those ones will be merged in this sentence:
the Pacific Nuclear research facility→have denied the rumor that a case of missing plutonium

And the new introduced character → will trigger the merging process with the version 29.3

Step by Step Procedure

1.Open your file under Notepad++
2.press CTRL+H (find and replace feature)
3.Check the box regular expression
4.In the field FIND , copy and paste this ([a-z])([\r\n]{2,3})(\s)
5.In the field REPLACE copy paste it with \1→\2\3
6.Press REPLACE ALL. A blue message indicate how many patterns have been replaced.
7.Press ESC and go back to STEP 2 to step 6 until no more replacement are possible. (2 ou 3 times)
8. Generate the deck with the software. Make sure to press preview and view the results. The concerned lines will be appear in red color for information.
9.Before importing to Anki, open the generated TSV file with any file editor and press CTRl+H to replace every instances of → with a single space for better reading.

You are welcome Big Grin
