Know any immigration lawyers in the Kansai area? - bodhisamaya - 2009-01-27

I am considering returning to Japan this summer and renewing a marriage visa the mother of my boy in Japan sponsored for me. If I return again it will be to live in Japan permanently so I want to make sure there are no surprises. She wants to live in Brazil with family after I return to Japan so it could get confusing without legal advise.

You don't need a lawyer unless you run into trouble/get denied. Just goto the immigration center in Osaka (it's on the new tram line) and do it yourself. You get an indefinite special visa until your answer comes back. Since you seem to have been (physically) separated yet married for awhile you'll likely need evidence of your relationship (letters, phone records, evidence of travel to meet each other, etc). When they ask for this information and you submit it, you get another indefinite visa until the next answer/request for more info.

It should be the same process as when you initially got your marriage visa.
