RTK2 came in the mail today! - smujohnson - 2009-01-20

... right on the day of Barack's inauguration. What a memorable day Smile

I'm excited to say that I can continue learning some Japanese and step it up a notch. I was a bit indecisive about it vs the 10,000 sentences method, but lastly, decided that Heisig's vol II was right for me.

To all others, has anyone else recently bought RTK2 as well? Ready to take the journey? Or maybe you're still plowing through it... post how you are coming along.

Thanks

I am just about to finish RTK2. It is a good review with one or more compounds given for most of RTK1. There is a list of 85 "Characters with no Chinese readings" as well. Learn the Pure and Semi-pure groups. I would ignore the mixed-group. I am not sure what the purpose of that list is.

I bought it ages ago, but only recently bothered with it. I've been looking up example sentences for most of the words in the pure, semi-pure and one-time reading groups. I may flip through the rest of the book when I'm done with iKnow... in a year or so...

I think the mixed groups are useful too.

I am working my way through RTK2 and have just finished the mixed groups (frame 1542, I think). In addition to the key words provided by Heisig, I try to find one or two more words for each reading. So I am using RTK2 to build vocabulary and learn the readings at the same time. I throw the vocabulary into an SRS and I also try to read everyday. I often find that I can correctly pronounce new words, even though I don't know what they mean. It is working for me...

I second that. It's amazing how much more comfortable I am with new kanji compounds, now. The actual vocabulary doesn't seem to stick that well, though.
