RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Nukemarine - 2009-01-22 I'm at the flower radical in RTK3, so I'm now looking up photos on google. Tree is gonna be a fun section. RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - alyks - 2009-01-22 bodhisamaya Wrote:Stoked and Phauna need a battle to the death to see who gets to be 魚I was thinking the same thing. But Phauna was here first. And in my mind 魚 is Phauna, and thus Stoked needs to change his icon. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. It's funny, anymore I don't read the usernames. The icons tell me who's who. RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - QuackingShoe - 2009-01-22 alyks Wrote:It's funny, anymore I don't read the usernames. The icons tell me who's who.Yeah, it keeps confusing the bejeezes out of me. RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - ファブリス - 2009-01-23 Haha, it's interesting how everyone picks a unique kanji. Have no fear there should be about 6000+ Japanese kanji. Maybe some day I'll need to add "pick (unique) kanji avatar' ;-) RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-01-23 Not a problem, I changed my avatar. also, I will considerably slow down in the next few days due to real life stuff. But I'll keep on working on this of course. It's fun. Thanks for the feedback!
RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Balaam - 2009-01-27 0134 has the wrong kanji, at the moment it's 名 but it should be 原. I'm finding the pictures useful thanks! RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-01-27 Fixed, thanks! Expect the next lesson (80 kanjis!) on Feb 3... RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Jeromin - 2009-02-01 kaoskastle Wrote:Why don't you make and post one? Give us all the link, eg, youtube, or some such. Then you'll surely get lots of help and support.mistamark Wrote:Oh my crap.Jeromin Wrote:I thought about a similar idea: pick a good mnemonic for each kanji from this forum and make a little video, with the elements, the story and the key word, sound and animation. Ridiculously ambitious, I know. Probably a professional project, or for someone with lot's of free time, but it would very likely achieve RTK1&2 retention in record time. Like the difference between memorising a written book and memorising little movies. That would be such a mission, but so awesome. Remember, combine keywords and images, like you would in a commercial, add sound, blow us all off. Maybe start with the mnemonic story, in nice floating text, give the viewer a second to remember the Kanji, then each element appears and is fused together. Or else, the appear combined, and each part is highlighted somehow as the story is typed. Just some thoughts. Best luck! J RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - lanval - 2009-02-03 Just a small note: can you not put so many pics in one answer? It takes quite long to load a page, several pages would be more practical. Thanks for the hard work! You are way faster than me learning at the moment xD RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-02-03 Well, I could do that. But why not use the option in the settings? RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - lanval - 2009-02-06 stoked Wrote:Well, I could do that. But why not use the option in the settings?Because my Internet connection is actually good. But 500 pics really take a long time to load. I just suppose that making posts with fewer pics would be more practical for all. Btw, if u need help... I just found a great pic for "crumble" 774 on google, you havent been there yet: http://www.ii.uib.no/~petter/mountains/5000mtn/Ararat/5903_kurds.jpg RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Smackle - 2009-02-06 Other forums sometimes have tags to hide images so that if a person wants to load an image, they may click on the button to view it. It is a lot of times called "spoiler". I do not know if this forum has it. RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - frlmarty - 2009-02-06 stoked Wrote:Well, I could do that. RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-02-06 lanval Wrote:I just suppose that making posts with fewer pics would be more practical for all.Okay. I'll slice them up in chunks of +/- 20. Other than that, the option in the settings does help. For me the thread has got 3 pages already and loads reasonably fast. I already size down all the pics to speed it up a bit. Also, I'm sure there are firefox plugins that would help. I guess that's all I can offer. Also, don't forget that I will share a picture enhanced Anki deck when I'm done. lanval Wrote:Btw, if u need help... I will only use pics with a free license, sorry. frlmarty Wrote:One post per picture is no option. Too much work and I'm not here to spam the forums.stoked Wrote:Well, I could do that. But why not use the option in the settings?the settings would be of use if there was more then 1 post. So yeah, uhm. I've reached #600 and it's still a lot of fun. I'll continue.
RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Nukemarine - 2009-02-06 You know, if you have a spreadsheet being made of this, it's possible to bulk load all this to iKnow. I don't know how to do feeds, so I can't help here. RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-02-06 Yeah, I see. I prefer to use Anki though and I'm not maintaining a spreadsheet. Buf if someone wants to apply some python magic or something and parse the content of the thread to a spreadsheet to bulk upload it to iKnow, sure - go ahead! RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-02-10 Could an admin please move this post? (BROKEN LINK) http://forum.koohii.com/viewtopic.php?pid=43507#p43507 Thanks! RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - cescoz - 2009-03-15 Stoked thx a lot for this thing that you are doing! This project is awasome...One request though... I would ask you if was possible for you to post an anki deck with images and stories of the first 1000 kanji. Its' not for me,a friend ask me this(he is starting with heisig) because he loves the pictures and because...you know...if half of the job was done Anyway great job RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-03-15 Sure, no problem. There ya go: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/662584/RTK_with_pictures_1100.rar [public dropbox link: rtk1 1-1100, keywords (english + german) + pics + stories, 55.4mb rar file] RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - cescoz - 2009-03-16 You saved his life! Thanks a lot stoked!!! RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Codexus - 2009-03-30 Awesome work! RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - woelpad - 2009-04-01 I'm working on an export feature to RevTK and noticed some typos. I'll be updating this topic whenever I discover some more and as they get corrected. Wrong frame numbers: Story typos: R61#1296: "occasian" should be "occasion" URL typos: R29#645: "thtp://flickr.com/photos/thomashawk/145503842/" should be "http://flickr.com/photos/thomashawk/145503842/" RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-04-02 Fixed, fixed, fixed and fixed. Thanks! I'm sure you will find more though. 1314/2042. 728 left... RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - Nukemarine - 2009-04-02 Man, I really like looking at these even though I'm out of RTK. Keep up the work and hopefully someone loads it into Smart.Fm (to ease importing into Anki naturally). RTK1: One kanji, one picture discussion - stoked - 2009-04-02 To be honest, I'm not really sure how helpful this is for other people. I guess I have an advantage because when I'm going through the pictures I make things up in my mind so every pic has a story. I mean, the following pic for I (one) doesn't make much sense, right? ![]() But for me it works. Sometimes I think that any picture would work. I could probably show an apple when the keyword is pear and it would still work. Also, I haven't really got a system and there's all kind of pictures. Sometimes the photo only shows the keyword. Sometimes it shows the primitive elements. Sometimes both. And sometimes neither but the beginning of a "scene" in my head to trigger the story. The funny thing is that mostly I can write the kanji just by looking at the picture, without the need for a keyword at all. Also, when I see a kanji somewhere often the pic I've added pops up in my mind, and therefore also the keyword. Whatever. It's still fun so I have no doubt that I'll complete this. And at the end I will share my Anki deck. If it helps others, cool. If not, no problem. Eaaasy man. Uhm, yeah!
