KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - Hashiriya - 2009-04-19 i probably could go monolingual already... except for the fact that my grammar still sucks

I found this part interesting as well considering both KO volumes combined cover about 3000 words:travis Wrote:Here's some research: http://www1.harenet.ne.jp/~waring/papers/cup.htmlThanks travis for an interesting read! "How much vocabulary and how should it be learned? We are now ready to answer the question "How much vocabulary does a second language learner need?" Clearly the learner needs to know the 3,000 or so high frequency words of the language. These are an immediate high priority and there is little sense in focusing on other vocabulary until these are well learned. Nation (1990) argues that after these high frequency words are learned, the next focus for the teacher is on helping the learners develop strategies to comprehend and learn the low frequency words of the language. Because of the very poor coverage that low frequency words give, it is not worth spending class time on actually teaching these words. " KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - mentat_kgs - 2009-04-24 This guy is contradicting himself. Quote:Research by Liu Na and Nation (1985) has shown that this ratio of unknown to known words is not sufficient to allow reasonably successful guessing of the meaning of the unknown words. At least 95% coverage is needed for that. Research by Laufer (1989) suggests that 95% coverage is sufficient to allow reasonable comprehension of a text. .I also saw some research that states that 95% is still to little and that 98% is needed. Anyway, with this in mind, if you look at that table, the right amount of vocabulary that one needs seems to be 15.000+ words. KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - activeaero - 2009-04-24 mentat_kgs Wrote:This guy is contradicting himself.15,000 from one study. When it comes teenage level novels 98% coverage was accomplished with just 5,000 words. KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - mentat_kgs - 2009-04-24 That's true. It's a flaw of mine to ignore dumbed down material. KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - Burritolingus - 2009-04-29 Just wanted to thank you guys for all the work that's gone into these lists. I've gotten (and continue to get) more out of these than any other systematic sentence method I've tried so far. So much more useful than Core 2000, it's almost sad. KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - Hashiriya - 2009-04-29 i agree that it is much better than the core series... i love how people can work together to make stuff like this... i wonder what the next project would be once this is complete? i'm sure it'll be a while before this is done though... KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - activeaero - 2009-05-06 Has anyone looked on Coscom's site lately? As of just a few days ago it looks like they have now added full audio readings for all of the example sentences! They even say if you purchased the previous CD versions they'll send you the new discs for free. http://www.coscom.co.jp/japanesekanji/kanjiodyssey_update/index.html This is pretty exciting news if we can figure out how to rip the tracks and get them into Anki. KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - Hashiriya - 2009-05-06 but does it include sentences for all 2001 kanji and all of their readings? Edit: i don't think it does... i'm already just about to complete 450 kanji on iKnow and i think i'll stick with it for the time being
KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - Nukemarine - 2009-05-06 It has sentences for the first 1100 like the book. The rest are covered with vocabulary only. Active, the sound files on the cd are named in order, so it's easy to add it to Anki. KO2001 CD is now a great resource if combined with the spreadsheet. Sad thing is I'm sure the audio will find its way onto torrents like the spreadsheet did. KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - mafried - 2009-05-06 Nukemarine, is anyone still able to grant access to the google spreadsheet? KO2001 and iKnow (Group Effort Request) - activeaero - 2009-05-07 Nukemarine Wrote:It has sentences for the first 1100 like the book. The rest are covered with vocabulary only. Are the sound files in exportable form? I noticed for Coscom's other audio CD's it states the audio is in MP3 format and designed to export to MP3 players but they don't say the same thing in regards to the KO2001 CD (well not that I have found at least). Oh and did Coscom every specify a date for the rest of the KO2001 series books? I remember you mentioning that they were working on sentences for a third volume.
