SRSs, Immersion techniques, etc. - explained in Japanese? - thermal - 2008-12-29 I am frequently in the situation where I am asked "How should I study English?" by Japanese students. The problem is that they are usually low level and I can't explain the concepts and I am not allowed to use Japanese with them. Even if they are higher level, they are always like "Oh, so there is this method too huh?". I have even shown them my Anki on my laptop and they are like, "huh, that's pretty cool". Further more, I can't really say "You will never get good just by coming to our school and doing the homework we give you". I can't really stress that this is not just another method, but that if you don't at least get a lot of English input you will never get good. I would like to recommend them the books that Khatsumoto recommends: http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/blog/book-review-absolutely-do-not-study-english-a-korean-antimoon-in-japanese But I can't because they recommend not coming to a conversation school. I do agree that it isn't necessary to go to a school, but I do think our school is pretty good. We give them a bit of grammar and then get them to speak a crap load. Anyway, if anyone knows anything, particulary online I would love to check it out. SRSs, Immersion techniques, etc. - explained in Japanese? - KristinHolly - 2008-12-29 These two look pretty good so far -- I didn't read everything though. Site with explanation and support for a much-reading / much-listening natural approach method of learning English: http://tadoku.org/index.html Online English flashcards with spaced repetition designed for speakers of Japanese (free sign-up but I think there may be some pay-based functions somewhere on the site): http://www.lexxica.com/vflash SRSs, Immersion techniques, etc. - explained in Japanese? - thermal - 2009-01-03 Thanks. The first one is just what I was looking for. I would probably not recommend the second one, since Anki is better and free. |
