10 hours of studying a day - mr_hans_moleman - 2008-12-18 I'm curious as to who else is studying Japanese hardcore. I know a lot of people follow the alljapaneseallthetime concept. But, what I'm talking about is who else has enough time(out of school, work lol) and has time basically to study Japanese all day. I work at a job that requires me to just be there, so I can do whatever I want. So I literally study Japanese for atleast 10 hours a day. 10 hours of studying a day - watashimo - 2008-12-18 Around two years ago I did study Japanese up to 10 hours a day. Helped me to reach conversational level in just a few months. (SRS + hours of shadowing). Vocabulary and complicated sentence structures were lacking, but I could talk for long periods of time entirely in Japanese. Had the same experience with Heisig afterwords. Studied up to 150 kanji per day and in just a few weeks the once so cryptic kanji had become an integral part of my everyday life. I`ve spent the past week studying around 8-10 hours a day, but I can`t keep this up for a long period of time. The past two day`s 6 hour sessions consisted just of around 3 hours of actual studying, else I was watching some J-Dramas (with SRS reviews in between). Need to find something to re-ignite the fire to get back to more quality studying. 10 hours of studying a day - tibul - 2008-12-18 I'd love to be able to study as long as that but with work and other commitments I find it pretty hard, although since I finished Heisig I've been doing about 4+ hours after work with the occasional brake to stop the wife beating me lol at the weekend I'm going to try to fit more time in. Also for the heavy studies did any of you know very little Japanese when you started? I'f so did you feel after a few weeks or so you started to understand more in shows and when reading etc I know its a bit of a common sense question and has been asked many time's before but I find it interesting at least
10 hours of studying a day - Tobberoth - 2008-12-18 When I lived in Japan, one could say I studied 10 hours a day from just being there. But it wasn't active studies so it doesn't really count. 10 hours of studying a day - anon6969 - 2008-12-18 Just out of interest, where to find these types of jobs that give you 10 hours a day to study Japanese?! 10 hours of studying a day - emily00 - 2008-12-18 Sadly, sometimes I do have that much time in a day to just spend for studying Japanese, but don't fully use it for that or don't even use it for that at all lately. I'm terrible at procrastination and motivation. In the past couple day's I've been getting better though and pretty much been studying at least 3 hours a day.

First hand experience. 10 hours of studying a day - Virtua_Leaf - 2008-12-18 I dunno how long really. It seems to take up most my day but I'm probably daydreaming for the most part. Recently I've been having to review 300 sentences a day (expired + new), then I have to add some fresh ones for the next day which, depending on how nackered I am, is anything between 15 and 80. I'm also trying to get some audio in these days when I go to bed, but I can never sleep with it on. 10 hours of studying a day - mentat_kgs - 2008-12-18 Well, like most people here I have some goals to cover in my job, but I'm free to make my hours and listen to what I want when I'm working, so I can get this 10 hours each day. All that is needed is a bit of creativity. 10 hours of studying a day - Squintox - 2008-12-18 I'm on winter break, I study around 6 hours a day, I can't be infront of the computer all day (where all my materials are). 10 hours of studying a day - Hashiriya - 2008-12-18 i'm studying iKnow between 4-6 hours a day since christmas break and i'm having insane results... my conversation is basic due to the lack of the grammar in the sentences but saying out loud sentences with the audio and covering so many items, i can just about follow anything
10 hours of studying a day - Virtua_Leaf - 2008-12-18 So what are you guys actually doing to fill up 10 hours? 10 hours of studying a day - Hashiriya - 2008-12-18 when i don't study iKnow i play videogames in japanese or listen to live station... fills 10hrs up easily... 10 hours of studying a day - Virtua_Leaf - 2008-12-18 Hashiriya Wrote:when i don't study iKnow i play videogames in japanese or listen to live station... fills 10hrs up easily...Oh cool, I do that as well. Ack, hopefully I'm around the 10 hour mark too. 10 hours of studying a day - Erubey - 2008-12-18 So wait is this active 10 hours of study or just 10 hours of japanese related activities. Because I did the former for a month and my brain started breaking down. 10 hours of studying a day - bodhisamaya - 2008-12-18 Anything done actively with Japanese I would consider studying. I watch Japanese TV two hours a day actively and consider that study time. If Japanese music is in the background while doing something else, it gets kudos but I doubt much would be retained. 10 hours of studying a day - Ryuujin27 - 2008-12-18 Well, it seems like now I have all the time in the world to study Japanese... considering my job can't hire me for my winter break. Looks like I'll get to do nothing but study Japanese until I go to Japan for a semester in March. I'll have to rely on my language skills to land me some rich Japanese friends who'll buy me things, now. ![]() But in all seriousness, I do plan to study hardcore now. I'm going to do iKnow, SRS, finally get back into RtK and finish up the ones I have left (probably go on to 3 too), and just generally do everything I can in Japanese. I'll try to let you guys know how it went in March when I'm in Japan and seeing just how much hardcore study paid off. 10 hours of studying a day - Hashiriya - 2008-12-18 japanese survival phrase #1 先輩!!奢って下さい!!! 10 hours of studying a day - mr_hans_moleman - 2008-12-18 anon6969 Wrote:Just out of interest, where to find these types of jobs that give you 10 hours a day to study Japanese?!i work as a porter, so I sit on my butt for 8 hours a day. 10 hours of studying a day - mr_hans_moleman - 2008-12-18 tibul Wrote:Also for the heavy studies did any of you know very little Japanese when you started? But, I didn't go hardcore until a maybe a couple of months into it. By hardcore I mean, I actually feel bad whenever I'm speaking English. 10 hours of studying a day - mr_hans_moleman - 2008-12-18 I listen to anything Japanese all the time, even in the washroom lol. My job requires me to basically just be there, so I can do anything I want on the computer. It's a dream come true actually. I read Japanese forums, do anki, watch movies etc... So I guess you can call this active studying. In my opinion, right now my purpose of my existence is to be speak like a native Japanese. In all honestly, what I do is pretty hardcore, almost obsessive actually. That's why I want to post this, to see whether there is someone crazier than me. 10 hours of studying a day - Hashiriya - 2008-12-18 i'm just about as crazy hehe.... i'm studing all the time when i am at home.. one thing i do when i am at work and can't actively study japanese (i'm a nurse) is that I constantly talk to myself in it... they can take away your freedom but they can't take away your mind since i work with the elderly, i don't have to do a lot of talking because half my patients are out of their minds ^_^
10 hours of studying a day - saizen - 2008-12-18 I work in a japan in a japanese company, so I HAVE to speak japanese lol(I would say i am at about 60/40-70/30 English/Japanese used ratio). I am extremely lucky..but what i find funny is when i am doing SRS reviews at work and someone comes up to me to have a chat i feel bothered lol. Then i realize ..hey...ok it in japanese. But a lot of the people in my group can speak english so they love to use me as practice...i do notice the better i get the more they speak japanese to you. On my non-busy days I put in about 8-10 hours of study but I avg. about 3-4 hours/day on a weekly basis. |
