I turned off anime to listen to the election coverage. Johnny Mac is throwing the kitchen sink at 小浜 on commercials now claiming he is actually Japanese and planned the Pearl Harbor terrorist attack.

Obama/Biden Laden '08!!! (actually I voted for Nader)

Eeee?

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - alyks - 2008-11-04

Ok. I get it now. But still, that was a bit random.

I vote to turn this thread into an official "let's watch the election together" thread.

Those of you outside of the US, how are you following the election? I'm in good ol' Jay-pan (as my relatives from Alabama would call it), so I'm just constantly refreshing Google News

I'm not an American and franky I'm sort of pissed I'm not allowed to vote since this election will affect the rest of the world heavily. Good thing that it seems the one me and the rest of Europe is cheering for is indeed winning.

Anyways, I'm not really following it. I check CNN once an hour or so, and I hang out at an American forum so I get some info there.

I voted 3rd party as usual but I do think it will improve the world's perception of America if Obama wins. When Bush was re-elected in 2004 a former friend of mine from Hiroshima sent me a hate e-mail blaming me personally for it!

I'm not an ex-pat but I'm in Australia watching the msnbc.com stream online. I'm not even interested in Australian politics and yet here I am breaking my all Japanese media rules. Really strange.

Weirdly I heard Japan mentioned exactly as I saw this post, but it was about the economic crisis.

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - alyks - 2008-11-04

Meh, I'll be glad when it's over. It's everywhere. I turned on a Japanese news stream the other day and even they were talking about how those two were aruguing.

The only stuff I know of is what I see on Digg.com which is very pro Obama. I really don't like McCain at all so I'm glad Obama is the favourite to win.

I'm Canadian, and I'm watching the US election coverage on Yahoo news.

I find it kind of funny that generally, people around here have talked way more about the American election today than our Canadian election a few weeks ago.

Canada had an election?

(kidding)

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - Transtic - 2008-11-04

Obviously he was kidding. Everyone knows that there are no elections apart from America, because outside America they don't have Democracy and Freedom. =)

(I was kidding too, just in cause someone didn't realize)

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - mentat_kgs - 2008-11-04

Seriously, canada had an election?
(just kidding)
(btw, this reminds me the old bad joke of asking to japanese people about the election)

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - Transtic - 2008-11-04

Did you now that the Japanese have a hard time each time they have an election? Specially when they are in crowded places likes trains and subways...

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - bodhisamaya - 2008-11-04

We are getting freedom and democracy in America? Maybe they will stop confiscating my shampoo at the airport now! When they take your Herbal Essence the terrorists win. Didn't Al Gore win the popular vote in 2000? Democracy means mob rule doesn't it? demo=mob; cracy=rule

Hard time indeed.

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - samesong - 2008-11-04

Ohio was just called for Barry. Looks like he has the election.

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - playadom - 2008-11-04

I dunno, it only shows pictures of the candidate's heads on the news...Kinda hard to tell...

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - alyks - 2008-11-04

I think it's funny how they like to call who presumed winner will be when it clearly shows on the screen "0%" of votes counted...

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - bodhisamaya - 2008-11-04

The little Southern Baptist church I grew up in thirty years ago did not even allow black people to be a member. Now America has a black president. Maybe there is hope for America.

Polling. I doubt people are going to cast their votes and then lie to the pollsters about who they voted for.

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - stehr - 2008-11-04

@samesong; I'm from 'bama too; birmingham area, ain't that supmn

btw a lot of people lie to pollsters. This is usually to stop the pollster from talking; ex: I get called by a republican pollster who asks:'who are you voting for', I would say 'McCain', not that I'm necessarily voting for or against him. But if I say 'Obama,' the pollster will say "why?", and then blab for an hour about how great McCain is. Or the other way around. Frankly, I just go with whatever side they're on, then go on with my day. I heard that 10-20% of people lie to pollsters to avoid talking to them, maybe more.

It's all decided in advance by our reptilian overlords anyways...

小浜 linked to terrorist internet kanji sites. - bodhisamaya - 2008-11-04

It's over. Obama has 297 electoral votes and so has gone over the 270 required.
