Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - Zarxrax - 2008-11-01 I have to admit, I'm weak. I waste so much time every day, looking at the same sites over and over, putting off the stuff I really need to be doing. I found a solution to my troubles, in a firefox extension called LeechBlock: http://www.proginosko.com/leechblock.html You basically just make a list of the websites that tend to suck up your time, and this plugin can block those sites from being accessed. It's very customizable, letting you block sites for a certain length of time, or at specified times of the day. You can even have it give you a small budget of time for certain sites, for instance I could set it to let me browse a certain site for only 5 minutes each hour. Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - kazelee - 2008-11-01 The only site leeching my time is this one :O Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - alyks - 2008-11-01 Genius! It's so much better than my solution, which was to edit the hosts file. Now I can do the same thing, but still let myself view sites for a short period of time a day. Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - Jarvik7 - 2008-11-01 Let me know when there is a plugin that will finish my degree for me so I can focus on Japanese

Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - danieldesu - 2008-11-02 An amazing thing happened today. My 10 minutes of random browsing (every 2 hours) ran out, and you know what I ended up deciding to do next? SRS! It really works! Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - abdwef - 2008-11-02 Awesome! I just added about ten political sites. I spend way too much time following politicians' lives instead of my own. :o Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - Zarxrax - 2008-11-02 Today I was actually able to sit down and write 5 pages on a paper that I have been trying to get started on for about a week. I initially just told the plugin to block my good sites for just 1 hour, but you know what? I kept on writing my paper for about 4 hours straight, without going back to look at any sites. The whole problem for me was just *getting started*. Once I got past that initial hurdle, I didn't even care anymore to stop and look at random websites. Now I've got some extra time to throw towards my SRS for tonight

Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - plumage - 2008-11-17 I've always been ok at shutting out *some* websites entirely from my life if I felt they were hogging my time. I prefer self-discipline, but I'll admit that there are way too many potential distractions in my life these days with a computer at my fingertips. My forefathers never needed the level of discipline from distractions that I do. There simply wasn't very much else for them to do, besides things that I'd consider productive these days (reading, getting some exercise, etc..) There are some times when I'm particularly weak to random surfing. One of these is late night. If I don't feel like playing videogames or going to sleep I'm fairly useless for working (self-employed) and so I end up reading all sorts of esoteric articles and go to bed way later than I should. Also, during the workday I like when I'm able to scan some headlines or whatever. What's bad is getting off on a wild sheep chase when I should be working. Brilliant add-on. Thanks. Firefox extension to stop procrastinating - TerryS - 2008-11-23 This is a great extension! I got locked out of this site once already. To be really firm, I configured my 1st set (which is only this forum, for now) to not allow me to change any options during times sites are blocked (so you can't just unblock it and keep going). The best thing is the support for subdomains...if it weren't for subdomain support, I wouldn't be able to use this on this forum, or obviously I couldn't study kanji, either. Just block "forum.koohi.com", not all of "koohii.com", and you're all set. |
