iKnow - resolve - 2009-01-07 Why not download the audio for later then? If you don't want it, you can disable that part of the plugin by editing the source. iKnow - Hashiriya - 2009-01-07 wow, i didn't realize that resolve was Damien, the creator of Anki!! thanks a lot for your work man!
iKnow - resolve - 2009-01-07 You're welcome. :-) iKnow - atreya - 2009-01-07 seanosaurus Wrote:atreya - The Anki files seem to be working. I thought it was funny that this is the first thing I saw when I loaded the file.I dont want to go off-topic... please check the screenshot - http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6899/33157149et8.png @resolve Is it possible to use the xml file for extracting data using the plugin ? I ask this because the xml file has bbcodes as well highlighting the important vocabulary for each sentence. iKnow - resolve - 2009-01-07 ask iknow to export the xml-only information in their json feed iKnow - atreya - 2009-01-07 resolve Wrote:ask iknow to export the xml-only information in their json feedHmmm, roger that. I apologize if my question was rude. I really appreciate the fact you wrote the plugin for extracting sentences iknow. I was just wondering whether it was possible to do the same from xml instead of json.
iKnow - zazen666 - 2009-01-07 resolve Wrote:Why not download the audio for later then?Sorry, I guess I wasnt clear enough. I want to download the sentences from the site so that I can intergrate into my current deck. Testing it out in a new anki deck, the plugin currently sets up the cards so that the Q side says `listen` and the answer side contains the sentence and english. I want to have the Q side contain the sentence in Kanji and the answer side hiragana and english if possible (No audio in the deck, the audio files I will save for later). Is that possible? iKnow - atreya - 2009-01-07 zazen666 Wrote:Sorry, I guess I wasnt clear enough. You can just change the way anki creates the flashcards. Please look at the screenshot - http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6899/33157149et8.png Even if it downloads the audio, you can also make anki not play them.
iKnow - zazen666 - 2009-01-07 cool thanks-will play around with it a bit. iKnow - kazelee - 2009-01-07 I just ran across this image while studying in iKnow. The word is びっくりする ![]() I think I'll stop posting for a while now... lol... iKnow - Hashiriya - 2009-01-07 to those who are studying iKnow with anki, i just had a thought that i thought i might share... i think it would be a good idea to post the Japanese definition of the word that you are covering underneath the example sentence (from Yahoo辞書 or something)... it would help you ease into using a monodictionary i would imagine... iKnow - tibul - 2009-01-07 Hashiriya Wrote:to those who are studying iKnow with anki, i just had a thought that i thought i might share... i think it would be a good idea to post the Japanese definition of the word that you are covering underneath the example sentence (from Yahoo辞書 or something)... it would help you ease into using a monodictionary i would imagine...I might have to give it a try as i've been thinking about trying to go mono soon. iKnow - Hashiriya - 2009-01-07 out of curiosity, have you guys seen iKnow's sentences use any kanji outside of the RtK 1 book? iKnow - cjswanson1355 - 2009-01-07 Sometimes I see some from RTK3. When the time comes I just find the mnemonic aid on this website, learn the kanji, and move along. iKnow - stoked - 2009-01-09 I'm new here. Amazing site, both this one and iKnow. Thank you tons!! iKnow - igordesu - 2009-01-09 Welcome! We're "stoked" to have you! Just kidding. So hopefully end of next summer. iKnow - Hashiriya - 2009-01-11 they were originally scheduled to be up by the end of the year... I imagine they will be out sooner or later... iKnow - distefam - 2009-01-11 Nukemarine Wrote:3. iKnow versus Anki - Seeing that these items are common use (download everything and use for free, no problem), there is no versus. Here's my ultimate goal should a more detailed spreadsheet get put together: Use iKnow to get 100% completion on a group of 200 words (takes about a month at the most). Now I consider these words "learned". Since I don't like iKnow's long term SRS set-up, I'll stream these "learned" words via RSS or that spreadsheet into Anki so that now these "learned" items can stay "memorized". I think it's been said before not to use Anki (or any SRS) to learn material. iKnow has a nice approach to get these words in your head, and Anki is perfect to keep it there afterwards.Nukemarine, thank you for all the useful information regarding iKnow that you have posted. I have just started using iKnow and I already recognize its utility for learning vocabulary. I do agree with you on wanting to use Anki to manage the long term retention of these facts. This brings up several questions which I would like to resolve before I get too far into my iKnow studying. First, you mention that you import the lessons into Anki after they have reached 100% on iKnow. Do you use the "Long term" or "goal" setting in iKnow? Next, when you input the words into Anki they are presumably already pretty well memorized, at least in the short term. Because of this, when importing, do you do anything special with the items? For instance, set the initial interval to a large number? Thank you in advance. iKnow - zazen666 - 2009-01-11 I dont think there is any reason why anki cant be used for new material. Basically, I read a sentence once then add it to anki-im pretty much using anki to learn the material. I just cant get into using Iknows soft-too much fluff and takes to long compared to anki. And I am pretty much convinced that the time spent with anki is great than time spent with Iknow. Anyways here is what I have started doing with Iknow. I used the plug in to grab all the sentences with sound of the site for my lesson. I made a new deck just to do listening (I made the new deck cause I want to review the listening seperate from the rest of the stuff.). I also add sentences into my regualr deck testing kanji to hiragana. Im gonna try that for a while and see how it works. iKnow - Nukemarine - 2009-01-12 snozle Wrote:Nukemarine, thank you for all the useful information regarding iKnow that you have posted. This brings up several questions which I would like to resolve before I get too far into my iKnow studying.I'm using long term study mode, which means I'll look at a word about 4 times before it's "completed" in a month assuming I don't miss it. However, I recently decided this won't correlate to how I'll be looking at it in iKnow (reading and dictation of the vocabulary word). From now on, I'll put "completed" course in at 12 to 16 day interval. As I've done 6 courses since the end of September, those I'm putting in at longer intervals (48 to 64 days for courses 1 and 2, 32 to 48 days for 3 and 4, course 5 will be 24 to 32 days, and course 6 will be 12 to 16 days). I figure anything not in memory will smooth itself out over time. Anyway, I just figured out how to rapidly do a spreadsheet that has vocabulary words, the sentences and the audio/images (thanks to Anki's import feature and the spreadsheet done earlier on page 1). Not being able to do this was the only thing stopping me from using Anki with iKnow sentences. I'll finish the spreadsheets up tonight. I put course 1 and 2 into Anki, made two cards per fact and am pleased with the results. Only problem maybe is the audio and images uses Anki's file naming system, but supposedly that makes it easier to share. Zazen, you're right in that you can enter the items straight into Anki and learn that way. However, I like iKnow as an "initial learning" for some reason. This is just a personal preference. PS: I really like Anki's updates that adding timeboxing, time studied per day graph and items studied per day graph. Minor things, but helpful for those that tend to procrastinate when they're not reminded about how much they're not doing. iKnow - nest0r - 2009-01-12 Nukem', how is what you're talking about different from the iKnow Anki decks already up at pseudosphere for a while now? I'm not following well. Are you talking about the user generated lists or something? For a while I assumed we were all using the iKnow sentences in Anki like any other sentence, with the added benefit of native audio/images--I didn't realize I was one of the only cool kids doing that instead of using the site. ;p iKnow - Nukemarine - 2009-01-12 nest0r Wrote:Nukem', how is what you're talking about different from the iKnow Anki decks already up at pseudosphere for a while now? For a while I assumed we were all using the iKnow sentences in Anki like any other sentence, with the added benefit of native audio/images--I didn't realize I was one of the only cool kids doing that instead of using the site. ;pI began dictating or reading only the vocabulary word, using the sentence as reference. This sped up my reviews, and helped me pass sentences as there was only one part of the sentence I cared about failing, namely the vocabulary word that the sentence is there to teach. Other than that, no different from anyone else. It was simple to add it to the pseudosphere list. Copy from the item list for the course in question then use the word processor and spread sheet to match it up with pseudosphere's list. I just used Anki's plug-in to stream iKnow material to get a larger photo instead of the thumbnail photo from the pseudosphere list. Specifically, I'll see: 書きて: しごと -- さんがつ は しごと が いそがしい image from iKnow audio playing of sentence From this, I'll try to figure out what しごと is and write it out in kanji. And the answer shows up as: 仕事 -- 3月は仕事が忙しい。 work, job -- I have a lot of work in March. From that, it's easy to see if I got it right or wrong. I no longer dictate the entire sentence, nor mark it wrong if I got other things wrong in the sentence. There will also be a variant card that does reading where the kanji is shown I have to know how it's pronounced. Again, it's not much different from those that just use the sentences. It's not as comprehensive though either. I just started in October to worry about one part of example sentences and not the entire thing. It made me review much, much more and see results. I just ran with it after that. If you're talking about using iKnow, well, it's not really important to use iKnow's study program. I use it cause I like is all. However, I do not like how it treats reviews with completed items. |
