For reviewing, I decided that Anki would be best for me. I was wondering though, how do you input the kanji on anki? Do you have to download some plugins? Also, if it's any help, I'm using a mac.

The Heisig deck comes with Anki when you download it.

1. Go to open deck -> Program Files -> Anki -> Samples -> RTK1+3.anki.

Or 2. go to the Anki main screen, and press "Open Sample deck" then open up "RTK1+3".

EDIT: Sorry, forgot that you used a MAC. Just do it by going to the Anki main menu: Deck -> Create new Deck -> Cancel making the new deck -> Open Sample Deck -> RTK1+3.

You should not do number 1, since the sample files may be updated in future releases. When you select 'open sample deck', it copies the file to your user dir so that future updates don't destroy your progress.

Personally I find Japanese input both much easier and much more effective in OS X than on Windows. How about the smart idea that writing in caps produce katakana? Genious.

With the sample deck, just remember that you will have to save it to a different location as the sample deck is read only.

I'll assume then that you are having difficulty generating the kanji individually because you don't know the readings. If this is the case then download JEDict, go to the kanji tab and search using eXXXX (where "e" is the prefix and "XXXX" is heisig's reference number for the kanji you want to find). You can then copy and paste the kanji to Anki.

If none of the above replies solve the problem then please try to give us a clearer idea of what the problem is.

Or just go to jisho.org and search for kanji using meaning. Many kanji share the same meanings, but never so many that you'll have any problem finding the one you're looking for.
