I live in nyc, but am not even ready for jlpt1, so I wouldn't be a very good fit.

Hmmm, interesting. I was thinking about taking JLPT 2 but it's a bit of reach for me and I decided I don't have time this year. However, I've been thinking about looking more at JLPT study materials, etc., so let me know what you have in mind schedule-wise...

Plumage (nice pick for the kanji, btw), you have it backwards. jlpt1 is the hardest, and 4 is the easiest.
