Where can I get RTK3? - CharleyGarrett - 2006-06-15

Now, I'm still only about halfway thru RTK1, but I have a copy of RTK2, but I haven't been able to locate a copy of RTK3. Any ideas? Rolleyes

I think you can buy the eBook from the publisher or something. As for the physical book I would try buying it from one of the sellers on amazon since its out of print.

I don't know what the situation is in America but I saw the book the other day in a book shop in Japan. mikedough, is it going out of print everywhere? If so, I'll grab it tomorrow.

are you sure they are out? i just looked up RTK 3 on froogle.com and there are bunch being sold for about 24$

The publisher says it is out of print and I did a quick search on froogle (who doesn't want RTK 3 as a book?). The only book I could find was RTK 1: 3ed which is quite different Smile.

I said that I saw RTK 3 in a shop but I went back to that shop and I realised that I'd made a mistake. I remembered seeing three Heisig books but the third was Remembering the Kana and not RTK 3. I'm going to go hunting for a physical copy of the book now.

Where can I get RTK3? - wrightak - 2006-06-20

I made an enquiry about RTK 3 and got the following email from the man himself.

Dear Sir,

the book is currently being retypeset for a new printing, probably in early Fall. Please write again then and I will let you know how it is progressing.

J. Heisig

So if you can wait, then there shouldn't be a problem.

If you don't want to wait, I just came across a copy on ebay here.

I'm only in the early stages of RTK1, so I won't be bidding on it, but I just wanted to let anyone who's interested know!

That's fantastic news about the re-printing! I really want a hardcopy of this book. They have it at my universities' library, looks like it's never been picked up Wink I once saw a copy on eBay for $120US - I'm not that keen. rolomail.com sells the eBook and you can buy it straight from the publishers. I can never use e-books, they're too clumbsy, but never-the-less I do have a copy of it if anyone wants a copy - I'll wait for the reissue and buy that.

wrightak -
Have you tried Bonjinsha bookstore (near Hanzomon station)? Large store with a pretty impressive collection of books for learning Japanese. If they don't have it there then your chances of finding it anywhere else would be pretty slim.

I met one guy who bought it from Kinokunaya in Shinjuku a few years ago, and some people said there's second-hand copies floating around at Book Off stores, but I could never find it...

In theory, you could start on Kanji 2043+ on this site without any book. I've browsed them and many have primitives I already know. New primitives you can make up meanings for yourself, just as Heisig did when he had to do this on his own.

That's true, most the primitives (and incidentally, chinese radicals) are covered in RTK Volume I. What RTK Volume III offers is also the corresponding readings section for onyomi and kunyomi for the 965 extra kanji (in the same fashion as book II).

Where can I get RTK3? - JimmySeal - 2006-07-02

I ordered it from the publisher. Apparently if you order RTK1 it comes in a few days, but it took me about a month to get RTK3. They must have had to dig it out from under a pile of rubble. Anyway, it's a PDF, not really an eBook, and it has more mistakes than you could possibly imagine, so if you can wait for the new edition, that's probably a good idea.

Where can I get RTK3? - sannomiya - 2007-07-04

hi. anyone know if a new edition of rtk3 will be released also? don't know if i should get the cd-rom or wait for a book that might not even come out.

Where can I get RTK3? - naniwa - 2007-10-12

A friend of mine recently ordered RTK 1,2 and 3 from Junkudo in Osaka. RTK 1 (5th edition) promptly arrived followed by the older versions of RTK 2 and 3. As my friend did not need Book 3 I helped myself to the copy - 3,600 yen. Naturally, I will now accept bids starting at ichi man.
Just kidding, but it does seem that RTK3 is still available, so there's no need to wait until 2009 for the new edition.

Where can I get RTK3? - skinnyneo - 2007-11-27

Looks like we shouldn't have to wait too much longer. According to the Nanzan site it should be available from January 2008.

There's the new editions of the 3 RTK books on amazon.com at the moment, but unsure if they're actually available.
RTK 1 has a blue cover, RTK 2 has a red cover and RTK 3 has a green cover as far as what I've seen.

Where can I get RTK3? - kaiya - 2008-01-10

According to the UK Amazon rtk2 & 3 should be published on the 15th January 08.
