Nico Nico Douga question - CyborgNinja - 2008-08-20 Hi, I'm new here. But I'll get right down to business. I haven't found a way to search in a specific category, like "sports" or "politics" on Nico Nico Douga. Does anybody know how? Nico Nico Douga question - Zarxrax - 2008-08-20 I had wondered the same thing, but after some experimenting just now, I found the answer ![]() Nico Nico Douga categorizes all videos according to tags. The categories themselves appear to be nothing more than special tags. So if you want to only search a certain category, type that tag in the search box along with the other part of your search. For instance, let's say I want to search videos in the 踊ってみた category. If I just click on that category, as of right now, it tells me there are 8710 videos listed there. If I just search for 踊ってみた instead, then the search result returns 8710 videos (though they are sorted in a different order). So then, if I wanted to search for ハレ晴レユカイ within the 踊ってみた category, I simply search for 踊ってみた ハレ晴レユカイ Nico Nico Douga question - EuPcsl - 2008-08-20 BTW, It's curious that Nico Nico Douga had a spanish version but not an english version... Nico Nico Douga question - CyborgNinja - 2008-08-20 ありがと、Zarxraxさん。That has worked for me. Nico Nico Douga is quite a bit different from Youtube in that sense. Even though Spanish is widely spoken in the world, if Nico had an English version its servers would be swamped. There are a lot more English-speaking Internet users out there, especially those who want to post their own videos online. It was only fairly recently that Nico was able to stop limiting the usage of its regular (as opposed to premium) users. Nico is somewhat disappointing. It's difficult to find exactly what you want. There is a flood of useless anime-related videos on the site (excluding actual episodes). While I prefer Nico's interface, Youtube has a far better community with far better videos. Actually, it's very disappointing. Nico Nico Douga question - Mcjon01 - 2008-08-20 CyborgNinja Wrote:ありがと、Zarxraxさん。Just for future reference, it's ありがとう, not ありがと. Normally I wouldn't be that guy that goes around internet forums correcting people, but I figure since we're all trying to learn the language... Nico Nico Douga question - CyborgNinja - 2008-08-20 Sorry, but I've been speaking the language since 2001, so your concern is certainly misplaced. Nico Nico Douga question - Mcjon01 - 2008-08-20 That's cool. I wasn't trying to offend or anything, but certainly you must understand how easy it is to equate "new member" with "new learner" when you've got nothing else to go on. I suppose my charitable heart is just too big for my mouth to handle.

While you have been *speaking* the language since 2001, writing is something completely separate from that (as I'm sure you are well aware, what with so many different character sets in Japanese). I met quite a number of people in Japan who were conversationally fluent, but who could barely read a menu or write out a comprehensible sentence by hand to save their life. So, even if Mcjon01 had known that you were fluent, conversationally, he still would have been completely justified in mentioning the spelling mistake, since (a) this community is aimed at language students helping each other become more fluent in Japanese (particularly in the *writing* department), and (2) by posting the correction, any *other* students seeing the spelling of the word will now know that you need the extra 'u' at the end, which can easily be overlooked when you're first learning to write. I hope that, in a vibrant and positive community such as this, no one would ever post a correction in order to insult another member, nor would anyone who has their spelling/grammar/ideas about kanji etymology/what-have-you corrected become offended over such a well-intentioned response. Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I also highly recommend the Japanese YouTube over most other video hosting sites out there (save for d-addicts, of course. *grin*) Nico Nico Douga question - nac_est - 2008-08-22 It's ok, nobody's hurt. It's true that ありがと is, strictly speaking, an error, but I've seen it used a number of times in manga as a slangy "abbreviation". That's probably what CyborgNinja was using, right? Regarding ニコニコ動画, I too have found it difficult to find specific videos. However it's still a great source of j-content, including all the comments they put on the videos. Nico Nico Douga question - nac_est - 2008-08-22 lol. Well yeah, they can be quite useless sometimes. Comments by themselves are more of a cultural interest than a source of sentences for an SRS. I find them interesting because you get to see the reactions of the Japanese to all kinds of videos. |
