where to get RTK1 Wallpaper - palmaris_longus - 2008-08-03
Anyone know where to get wallpaper with all RTK1 kanji on it? I've been searching on google but still no luck finding it (i don't even know if such thing exist in the first place). But I did find this:

That's a brilliant idea. (俊). I don't know where to find one. I'd prefer it without the keywords. Just stick a joyo list into photshop.

At first I thought this might turn out to be cool, just like the Kanji T-shirt. And then somehow i figure out how to make it using Wakan, but the result made my desktop ugly as hell! Beside, it won't show kanji in RTK1 order, but rather in stroke count or frequency order.

Why not:
Find a list of kanji in the RTK order
Give it a cool font
Change the color from black on white to something cool like green on black
Save the file high quality
I'm going to bed right now, but if nobody has one by tomorrow I can maybe put one together.

Copy and paste into photoshop, and choose a nice font and color I guess. You'll need to enter a bunch of returns to get them to fit on the screen and not just show up as one long line though. EPSON have some great free fonts but I forget where I downloaded them from exactly, there was a link on this forum if you search.
If you don't have photoshop, you can tell me your screen resolution and what colors you want and I can do a simple one for you.
Edit: It won't have keywords.

Thanks, you're so generous pal. Too bad i don't have photoshop (T_T) (I did have once but for certain reason now it's gone). So, if you don't mind and have some time, it would be great if you could make one for us here. The screen resolution is 1024 x 768. If it's not too much too ask, actually I prefer one with a space on the left for two columns of desktop icon. I'm sure everyone here on the forum would be glad too if you can make a cool one.

At that resolution I think it's impossible to have 2000+ characters displayed on the screen. I just made a quick one, and at a 1024 x 768 size the characters are just barely readable on my 1280x1024 res screen. When I lowered my resolution temporarily it became completely unreadable.
I think if you want this you'll either need to settle for fewer characters or get a new monitor. Someone else might have a better solution though. Here's the file, anyway. Formatting is just left plain because I'm pretty sure it's unusable.

why thank you man! it's actually readable and fits perfectly (however,i have to set the taskbar to autohide to show the last line, but it's okay).
To know that I still can only recognize the upper one forth of the screen (i'm on 480+ through RTK1) sure is encouraging. It's the pride of Kanji learner, don't ye think?

If you ever get photoshop back, I'd suggest setting it as a multiply layer and putting something more interesting underneath. I'm not graphics skilled though so I won't even try.

You just need to break them into a few pages, and use a wallpaper changer. Maybe ten sets of 200 characters a page.

I think that it would be most effective for study (particularly if one hadn't yet completed RTK1) to have the wallpapers show a smaller group of kanji; in the case of the ones I designed, 130 at a time. I have also moved the groups, which were taken from the PDF version of Remembering of Kanji, to the side, so you can have your icons on the left an not covering any of the kanji. If people like these, I can make a bunch of them until the kanji are exhausted, and upload them as a ZIP file.

If you have Photoshop, you can use Gradient Maps to change the color schemes of the wallpapers with ease, and there's plenty of room for pictures on the side. I have taken a screenshot of my desktop to show how it can be both functional and attractive (putting favorite people, symbols, quotaions, etc...very motivational!):

I made a wallpaper for my large monitor (1680x1050 resolution), it has 3007 kanji, from "one" to "mandate" in RTK order. I dislike anything too bright, so this is a kind of dark background.

Thanks for the kudos. I managed to fit 3007 kanji onto a 1280x800 image, it's a bit of a squeeze but I think the visibility level is okay. The 1680x1050 is much easier to read of course. I used Flash to make them and the font used is called "HG丸ｺﾞｼｯｸM-PRO". Again this is based on B.J. Morgan's image with a blur and green tinge.

One problem, you don't count kanji with 個, you count them with 字 or 文字.
