@Tykkylumi Don't be afraid of taking a break from reviewing for a bit. I had a break of 2 weeks in the middle of doing RtK, and though it was tough catching up with so many reviews (plus I'd forgetting how to write tons of primatives), the stories all came flooding back.

I also took a 4 month break from reviewing last year, and again all came when i started again!

Actually I now view these breaks as valuable, as it allowed me to truely which kanji had proper stories that truely stuck, which I had just rote memorised (around 20% of them).

Yeesh, I have such long way to go...I'm on 104. Started about four days ago and I keep thinking about the daunting number of kanji before me.

For all you stressing about schoolwork, Good luck!

The Encouragement Thread - NoSleepTilFluent - 2011-03-26

104 Kanji in 4 days!!! In my first 4 days of japanese i couldn't write あいうえお!!!

You're on the fast track to awesome just look at the path behind you not in front of you!

By the end of the week you'll double your Kanji stats. and towards the end you pick up momentum so don't worry about the numbers. There will always be Kanji you do NOT know that's life you're learning Japanese not Chinese and even if you're learning Chinese you're not trying to learn every character. 無理無理無理だよ (muri dayo)

Welcome to Heisig method it's a "long" journey but it all works out in the end! It is a really really short journey compared to other methods so enjoy it. You are better than your classmates or peers because you decided to start Heisig Method at least 4 days before them.

I'll look forward to seeing you in the completed thread!
楽しみにする。

Did 84 kanji in the past two days. I'm now at almost 250 (forgot the actual number) and I don't have any problems with most of them. It's fun learning the kanji and remembering them, but I'm having serious motivation issues. I want to be done with RTK1 by the end of May, so my goal is 50 or more per day--haven't reached that quite yet. But every time I learn more, I just keep thinking how far away I am from the end. It's frustrating.

I made myself a graph in Excel and put in a target to reach every couple of weeks. Seeing the graph progress when I put in the number of kanji I did each day helps keep me motivated Smile

Maybe, but just maybe I'm a maniac...I'm adding daily rough about 80-120 Kanjis...just gave myself a little break. Hope I'll get the 1700 Mark today...The finishing line is so close, but yet so far away, keeps making pressure at some point Undecided

that's some deadly numbers. Yea that's why you don't have any energy left. Give yourself a break and add at a slower pace. I usual like to timebox when I srs and give myself plenty of breaks so I can finish my pile of reps/add new cards

The Encouragement Thread - al4bandi - 2011-04-07

The last 2 days i was inconsistent and didn't do reviews nor learn new Kanjis.
I was slacking off again, and i just reached 1625 Undecided.

Daily i have to review about 100Kanji's...and today i forgot about 22% which i learned the last 2 days, and i was just disappointed from myself.

It's natural to forget, just keep plugging in and you'll remember most of them

I too think that reviewing 100 kanjis and adding 70-80 per day drains your energy. Trying to do it really, really fast just actually makes you slower. And makes you sick of kanji. At least me Smile

I'm only at roughly 250 but that feels great since two months ago I thought it would be impossible to ever learn even 100 kanji.

Someone wrote above: look at the path behind you, not in front of you. You're at 1625 - that is awesome! Take it easy and more will stick.

Hello Henrsand, as I see you're new to this Forum, and welcome you on that. I hope you'll get such a good experience as is did.

In case of Kanji...not just Kanji, in many aspects of my life I'm a man of extremes.
As i started with Heisig back then, i was not different as I am now. I took the book, and was fascinated by the strength, the method and Heisig by himself showed me. As i got the book i worked through over 100 Kanjis...it was addictive. And hell yes, it felt amazing.

But life itself changes...I do look at the path behind me, yes, it is a long road, and many people couldn't travel longer on that path (i don't want to discourage anyone!).
But as I look behind me, i do look in front of me...and there's still a long way to go =D

sounds just like me. I went hardcore with heisig in the beginning, but I've found out, the best way to learn and maintain it is to go at a slow pace. If one where to add 30 new kanji per day. Even 20. They would finish in 2-4 months, all the way up to 2000 kanji, even 3000. Slow is better for tihs case.

your almost down, just a little more until the goal is reached. But yea it's good to relax though, you'll keep coming back for more if you take a lot of breaks

I've had once a big break in summer 2010. I needed time until now to make myself study again. I don't want to risk this by giving me to much space ...have to be strict with myself :/

The breaks I usual take are 10mins, then I always come back for more reps lol. But for now I'm taking a break from my reps and just reviewing my cards/letting it settle down before I start adding again. (slower pace of 10-30 new cards per day)

The Encouragement Thread - al4bandi - 2011-04-08

*ehem* Sorry, misinterpreted it. I'm taking too breaks...The brain needs breaks, its elemental. After 50 minutes you SHOULD take a break, otherwise the brain is going nuts and berserk, rampaging over your soul

If I'm brave Lesson 45 will be finished today

haha, yea. I remember I was sitting down/studying for 2-3 hours straight. I hat to get up and flex my muscles, as they where getting stiff from sitting too long lol. Yea breaks are essential, otherwise I'd just go crazy

Good luck! I know (somewhat) how that feels - I often go without reviewing for a week or two during finals and stuff and often have 600 + vocab/sentence reviews and it takes me forever (ie, a whole week) to catch up...it's nice to only have a couple hundred to deal with a day!

Smile
