I'm in a similar predicament... This might be a healthy addiction, however Smile

I just made it through lessen 23 in one day! I usually do 2 or 3 lessons a day for my kanji lust, but I think this is a good one for today (OMG WHY IS IT SO LONG?!?!?). WOO!
頑ばって!
(I only used 頑 because I haven't yet learned 張. Alas, that'll be awhile :-P)

The Encouragement Thread - canji - 2008-07-30

Just made it to 70. The end is in sight.

The Encouragement Thread - TheSpartan - 2008-07-30

513, I've already given up once before and I've just gotten to the point where Heisig leaves you to the wolves. Been going at a fast pace the last few days (50+ a day) so hopefully I can keep it up.

I'm at 475 and was already having a difficult time with lesson 18, but was working through it. Now the summer travel season has come upon me (work-related). I missed almost a week last week, and will miss two more weeks this summer. I got home to a huge review pile, and retention rates dropped from an average of ~90% to 75%.

Basically, I'll have enough time to knock the review pile down and study fails, then it'll be time to go again. I don't think I'll be adding new cards for awhile, because I'll get back and have another huge pile to beat down before the third trip.

These trips are also really, really difficult to take my laptop with me. It's complicated.

The Encouragement Thread - dat5h - 2008-07-30

I hear ya plumage. I have just realized that my paper deadline for a conference (in Sapporo) is fast approaching and I have little in the way of results. I, too, may be witholding new cards for a bit. Sigh ...

Now at 90, I got more Kanji meanings than my Grandpa's got years.

The Encouragement Thread - dat5h - 2008-07-31

keep up the good work, buddy. That 100 mark will feel amazing

The Encouragement Thread - kazelee - 2008-07-31

I think I'm cracking or burning out or something. Learning the kanji is giving me a headache; mostly when I try to dig deep for one that's slipping away. Never been a fan of pills, though I've been taking a bit Alcaseltzer lately.

951 - Tomorrow I hope to be at 1000 @_@.

I think we are collectively making the population of Japan/China cry.

The 1:10 to kanjiville.

Agreed. I wonder what my Japanese teacher will think when I waltz into class knowing the joyo kanji list + onyomi.

My victory board says "Totally ruin your JP teacher's world view. How? Keep going."

The Encouragement Thread - kazelee - 2008-08-01

Shweet!

I just hit 一万. And oh am I loving it.

At 1250 I think I'll stop and let them soak up for a couple of days.

Hey, alyks when did you start on-yomi?

The Encouragement Thread - phauna - 2008-08-01

When I was a young 'un learning Heisig, we had to review both ways uphill and we didn't have no darn encouragement thread to be a helpin' us, neither.

The Encouragement Thread - FlyingFin - 2008-08-01

Hey guys! I've done 118 kanji quite some time ago, and then stopped (again!), but today I decided to review 'em all and have a go for the third time! I know this must be the best way to learn the Kanji, and I do find it enjoyable when I start but then it all slips away after a few weeks :/

Good luck to you!

Just started two days ago, done the first 6 lessons (104 kanji). It's a long road ahead...! It's inspiring to read the messages from those near the end.

Very impressed by how easy the stories make it to recall a kanji from the keyword.

A long while ago. Know the onyomi for all the kanji I know, which is encouraging.

I think you mean 一千 Smile

What's that smell? Is something... burning?

LoL

You is right. I think I should start all over again. Any ideas on how to not confuse these two?

Quiet you!

For numbers you have to have some sort of connection with the amount. Like thousand = 1000 year reich (evil, I know), ten thousand could be thousand + needle.

Here you go: My tongue is sending a message, when I stick it out.

The Encouragement Thread - kazelee - 2008-08-01

Now that I think about it, I originally confused the pronunciation of 千. I got the wrong kanji and just accepted it. So, I think I'll have to come of with a story for the pronunciation as well as the kanji in order to make these stick right.

I think you should leave out the 一, too :-P

The Encouragement Thread - sfekas - 2008-08-01

Dat5h is right. One thousand is 千 without the 一,but ten thousand is 一万. I don't know why that is.

On the encouragement front - I just got to 1727. The end is really in sight now. Like so many other people at this stage, I'm upping my numbers because I'm so close to the end. Still, it's amazing to look back on kanji that I had a hard time remembering 20 or 30 chapters ago and think about how I know them with no trouble now.

I know, right? I just got to 1750 a few minutes ago. But the reviews are getting harder for me, and I'm finding harder to get the time to add my normal fifty a day. BUT THE END IS IN SIGHT!

Edit: Hey, sfkas, wanna race?
