The Encouragement Thread - kazelee - 2008-07-23

Since there was already a thread for those who completed RTK 1, I thought I should make one for those who are currently working.

We be like cheerleaders for each other.

Post your numbers here regularly then pat yourself on the back.

Get encouragement. Cheer.

You can do it!

Currently at #875 and loving every moment of it.

The Encouragement Thread - pitwo - 2008-07-23

I'll see if I can make it past half-way point today Big Grin

Lol I just flubbed the kanji for "study" in my review. Ironically this was a Kanji I just knew through experience with anime before. I thought of all the schoolhouse kanji I had learned and got nothing. This is "not" a kanji I should have forgotten. The element I was missing was the child. Now I've decided to call the child the Golden Boy. It works perfectly since he travels the world on his bike screamng "STUDY STUDY STUDY...!!!!" I'll never forget the anime and now I'll never forget the kanji.

Oh man, I need some encouragement. I just took another unscheduled break today. Doesn't help I had this nasty little trojan on my computer I had to take care of. AND I ONLY HAVE FIVE HUNDRED MORE TO GO!

The Encouragement Thread - kazelee - 2008-07-25

Save your deck. Back it up. It's the only thing important in life right now. Big Grin

AV that trojan (oh the irony), or send it to your boss. LOL

Just 500 more to go. Oh, how I envy you. I shall soon reach, I shall. 25-50 a day. Mmhmm.

Alyks, stay away from wherever it is you got that trojan till you've finished Wink.

Yo, I'm on 2042 but I did one thread of this on my own. It helped me a lot. Ganbare!

The Encouragement Thread - captal - 2008-07-25

I'm done with RTK1 but I need encouragement to do my reviews! A lot of the kanji are not sticking well for me... I should have been more imaginative Big Grin

Keep going! If I can do it, anyone can.

The Encouragement Thread - dat5h - 2008-07-26

419 ... We can do it! All night lo ... nevermind

The Encouragement Thread - AdamLeliel - 2008-07-26

Reached 300 last night! Well happy.

The Encouragement Thread - phauna - 2008-07-26

There are only two thousand of them, get to it!

The Encouragement Thread - chochajin - 2008-07-27

I also need encouragement, but of a different type, I guess.

I just started with RTK1 not too long ago and was progressing really fast PLUS it's a lot of fun.
Before I started I ordered the book and while waiting for the real thing I worked with the sample which goes up to frame 172.
Problem: I live in Japan and NEED the German version of the book (I'm German and I've already started with the German keywords and I don't want to change to English now).
Today I got a mail from amazon.jp that the delivery has been delayed and that it might take until MID SEPTEMBER!!!
Oh no, what should I do? :/ .... almost 2 months with only reviewing less than 200 kanji? No, nooo :/

The Encouragement Thread - cescoz - 2008-07-27

1700 but under depession with the review!!!
Oh my...today 369 expired cards
Maybe I went to fast with the last 500 and now...I don't know what to do
suggestion?

Have you learned the kana yet? Also, skip Amazon, look for the book in other stores and who knows it could be on eBay too. And have you tried ordering directly from the German publisher? If all else fail, try to contact the german author (lookup their kanjigym page on google).

Yes, I learned Kana 5 years ago when I started to study Japanese Smile
I tried everything, but it seems no matter what it'll take a while until I get it. Furthermore I'll be on vacation starting from August 10th, so ... I guess I just have to be patient and wait and HOPE that there won't be another delay T__T

The Encouragement Thread - alyks - 2008-07-28

Chochajin, why don't you use the English one and look up the kanji meanings in a German-kanji dictionary? Or even substitute the German word for the English word? That's a lot of time waiting. I will have finished RTK in less days than how long it's taking to get there.

The Encouragement Thread - chochajin - 2008-07-28

At first I thought about that, too, it's just that the English keywords are not always the same! Most of the time they are, but sometimes they are really different, so I'm not sure about that.
Well I'll be busy the next week, so I wouldn't have time anyway and after that I have a one week vacation. Still after that I might have to wait another 2 weeks for the book, so maybe I'll order it in Germany and pay the REALLY high transportation fees to make sure I'll get it right after I come back from my vacation *sigh*

The Encouragement Thread - chochajin - 2008-07-28

Sorry for the double post:
I was wondering if there's a way that on the study page of this site I get the German keywords instead of the English ones? I know there are quite a few German people on this site and some of them use the German keywords on this site, so basically there should be a way?!

If not has anyone of the German fellows here holidays and thus enough freetime to maybe type some of the keywords (173+) and give it to me?

Anyway thanks for your help so or so Smile

The Encouragement Thread - alyks - 2008-07-28

They use a greasemonkey script to replace the keywords and manually input the German keywords. I think.

Greasemonkey firefox add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748

The Encouragement Thread - chochajin - 2008-07-28

I already use that, but that's just for replacing the given English keyword with a German one. It doesn't help me in finding the German keywords.
It would be nice if I can just input the number of a kanji and then not only the English, but also the German (French, Spanish, whatever) keyword pops up.

The Encouragement Thread - woelpad - 2008-07-28

KanjiGym Light has them all. Start the application, use the select range option, enter the range you're interested in (the smaller the range, the easier to locate) and go through them one by one. That's about the cleanest way I can think of to acquire the keywords online. Don't tempt people to put the keywords on the forums or on someone's homepage, because that's a big no-no.

BTW, if you want keywords in both languages to show up, instead of overwriting the original keyword, append the new one, separating the two with a "/", as in "one/eins" (or "eins/one"). It might become a bit of a distraction when doing reviews, since both keywords will be shown, but perhaps there are already people who are doing it this way and can comment. The benefit is that you can search the keyword in either language and have the original keyword there for reference when browsing through stories.

The Encouragement Thread - chochajin - 2008-07-28

Wow,

thanks so much! Now I can go on with those German keywords and the English stories on this side (translated into German) until my book arrives. Thanks so much Big Grin

The Encouragement Thread - alyks - 2008-07-28

Great! Now get to remembering!

The Encouragement Thread - kazelee - 2008-07-29

I'm in a pickle. I've done 40 today, and I want more. I just can't seem to stop. I think I'm becoming a kanji addict. Sad
