hey guys i just wanted to let you guys know if you have a spare computer monitor around your house you might want to connect it to your PC and enable dual-monitors. this is what i have done and i have anki opened up on one screen and on the other screen i can open KO.2001 or a webpage or whatever and i can pick and drop new vocabulary really fast without having to minimize and maximize everything. it's really cool, give it a try ^_^

dual-monitors would be pretty cool for playing videogame emulators on your PC too because you can look up the japanese scripts/translations and stuff in one monitor (or follow a guide) and play the game in the other monitor ^_^

Although I'm a big fan of dual monitors, it should be noted that in this particular case you can get the same effect by just not running your programs maximized all the time

It's also great for watching TVU/dramas.
You could just minimize and listen to the sound, but I find I understand and take in MUCH more when I have the video to go with it. Sometimes its distracting and stops me what I'm doing for a few minutes, but it's still worth it.
Oh, and I'm sure I have the strangest dual monitor set up of anyone: 19 inch giant CRT monitor on the corner of my desk, with a tiny 14 inch lcd next to it. The CRT runs in 1600x1200 and the lcd is often in either 800x600 or 1024x768 (the max).

はは！！ that is kinda funny, i got a 17" 4:3 LCD and a 19" 16:9 LCD i just started using dual monitors last week and i'm loving it ^_^. but yeh, 3 would be really nice ^_^

I use ion for linux which is not for the fainthearted but allows you to partition your screen so that you can conveniently have many programs open at the same time. In my anki virtual desktop I have it split so I have the main anki window and the add new cards window to the left, and to the right I have a list of vocabulary I have collected to be added (on top) and a Japanese dictionary(on the bottom) open. I honestly can't imagine using anki any other way.

I think that most people use dual/tri monitors for the purpose of looking at multiple documents open at the same time without the need to alt tab or whatever between each document as you need simultaneous look up.

And as has been discussed in this thread, that's perfectly possible with any non-tiny single monitor (where "tiny" is probably 640x480, maybe 800x600).

I have been running dual-monitor for years as well.
Currently I have a giant 24" Samsung (1920x1200) with a 15" (1024x768). Both are LCDs.
Screenshots take up 10megs.
I kinda want to try a tiling Window Manager now. Need to choose what distro first though.

I have about 4 different e-books that i look through at any given time simultaneously with the primary screen as the word editor.
