Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - shakkun - 2008-07-07

Hey, hopefully these haven't been posted before but I remember seeing some threads looking for Japanese subs and I thought I'd share some of the ones I've found (apart from the well known d-addicts, dramanote etc). I haven't seen these linked around, probably because they're mostly Russian?? I tried to post this on AJATT a while ago but I guess all the links set off the spam detector.

http://kitsunekko.net/JapaneseAnimeSubtitles.aspx
Some Code Geass R2, most of Death Note, Bleach movie, CLANNAD and other anime (inc. some Ghibli).

http://animelochi.nm.ru/translation/japanese_scripts.html
Links to other sites. Some transcripts, some subs, all exact that I've checked.

http://akusento.narod.ru/jimaku.htm
Random Ghibli and more things I've never heard of.

And finally my favourite:

http://project-modelino.com/japanese-movies.htm
JACKPOT aka. Entire Hana Yori Dango 1+2, Nobuta wo Produce, Densha Otoko and GTO (haven't checked those two) and a ton of others which largely seem to be complete.

Anyway hopefully all that's of use to some people. The first site links http://anisuzi.blog81.fc2.com/ which supposedly has anime scripts but is beyond my navigation skills. If anyone takes a look I'd be curious what they have.

Check out http://www.jdrama.cc which has scripts from some recent dramas captured from the closed captioning. Unfortunately, it seems like this process is somewhat complicated, which is why more people aren't doing it.

Edit: These aren't actually subtitles, just scripts though.

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - yukamina - 2008-07-07

Great...erm, how do I use them? ^_^;;

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - shakkun - 2008-07-07

Yeah jdrama.cc is well known, I believe they even take requests which is cool.

@yukamina: Rename them to the same as your video file (download raws off d-addicts if you don't have them, I recommend Hana Yori Dango highly) but leave the extension the same. Make sure they're in the same folder. For those that have two files (.idx and .sub) rename both. eg:

Hana yori dango ep01 (704x396 DivX).avi
Hana yori dango ep01 (704x396 DivX).idx
Hana yori dango ep01 (704x396 DivX).sub

Windows Media Player Classic appears to be the only player that can handle the Japanese characters. VLC player, BSPlayer and ZPlayer can't. If anyone knows any other players, I'd be interested.

Muchas gracias. Sorry but I had to correct that.

The reason that more people don't rip closed captioning is probably because it's pretty poor quality. The text cannot keep up with the dialogue and so generally only the basic gist of what people say is put into the captions. Plus, many programs include no closed captioning information. Many tvs don't even support it. It's nowhere near as universal as it is in Canada/America(/Europe?).

You need a 1seg tuner, and I believe the character sets cause some problems. I know there was a thread on d-addicts with someone attempting the process and giving up. I'm not sure how hard it is with English, but it certainly seems complicated enough to put people off. As for accuracy, the ones I've seen are on par with English closed captioning. Bridging words are often dropped, sometimes it goes off script seemingly arbitrarily, but overall very close (and it's always obvious when it's not). They're also generally better than dramanote and useful for looking up words/SRSing.

It probably depends a lot on the show. In English, variety shows, quiz shows etc are very off. Scripted shows are much better. It's not at all hard to tell the quality, though, case by case.

(For the record I don't know if these ones come from DVD rips or CC)

EDIT: I now know they're DVD rips. So the relative quality of CC is irrelevant.

Here's the thread that explains how to capture the subs:

Haha, wow!

That method of capturing CC text is incredibly hackish - more than I could have possibly imagined. Are there no linux drivers for any 1seg tuners?

I've looked, but this is all I could find: http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2007-August/020074.html

VLC player also handles Japanese subtitles, at least I've used them. I think all I had to do was use a different font.

That's true, sorry. I forgot it was just my computer that has issues with VLC. It should be fine for anyone without a possessed OS.

By the way, I tested those Japanese subtitles for Death Note from http://kitsunekko.net/JapaneseAnimeSubtitles.aspx in BSPlayer Pro 2.24 and they worked fine, so I guess this player works with Japanese subtitles in general. I didn't even have to do any configuring for it to work, I just renamed the subtitles' filename to match the episode's filename like you said and it was good to go.

It occurs to me, considering that jdrama.cc is producing scripts rather than subtitles, perhaps there is an easier way if one is willing to forgo the timing data? Also, I don't really know, but it seems like people who are fansubbing anime these days may somehow be acquire closed captioning scripts so more people may be extracting this information than one might imagine.

Yep, I just reformatted my computer and all players are in fact working fine with the subs, including ZPlayer. So all players seem good, so long as you have east asian fonts installed.

Hey guys (1st post woot!),

http://www.dramanote.com/ has tons of transcripts for dramas, just search for it at the top.

ex. ( http://www.dramanote.com/?cid=32478&page=1 ) transcripts for episodes of 女王の教室 (Queen's Classroom)

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - AdamLeliel - 2008-07-13

Awesome. Thank you very much.

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but could anyone point me towards pokemon (season one) exact Japanese subs?

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - uberstuber - 2008-10-07

The 電車男 subs are for two episodes each, and don't match up with what I have. Anyone know how to fix that/have a version of the subs that is split for each episode?

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - Nukemarine - 2008-10-07

Uberstuber, unfortunately you're going to have to change the timing on the subs manually. Vobsub and VLC (I think) let you do this fairly painlessly. For Densha, I delayed either 15 seconds or added 4 seconds (it changed timing every commercial break). For the second episode, you'll delay it 45 mins x 60000ms or there abouts.

To save effort, I wrote down my delay times and what time in the show to do it for episode 1 (and part of episode 2).

Pain in the butt. However, it's worth it to get exact subs for such a nice show.

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - uberstuber - 2008-10-08

I guess I'll just do that.
Is there a way to change sub timing besides the hotkeys in vlc? Holding h for until it counts to 45*60000 seems like it would take a while.

Exact Japanese subs for dramas and anime - Squintox - 2008-10-09

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, or if I'm hijacking it, but it sounded like the most suitable place without having to create a new thread...

How do you use DramaNote exactly? For example, say I wanted to find the dialogue for Densha Otoko Ep. 1, I mean... where does it start and where does it end? http://www.dramanote.com/?eid=487863

Thanks!

Squintox Wrote:How do you use DramaNote exactly?
Dramanote (and a lot of Japanese pages in general) is awkward to navigate.

The link you put there is a summary of the first episode. To the right and a little above the title 『100万人が見守った恋の行方』is a little link that looks like [ 電車男 ]. Click on that and you can view all of the posts tagged with 電車男. To go to the next page of stuff labeled 電車男 you can click on this: | 1 / 2 PAGES | >>
It's somewhat hard to find.

I really haven't seen any full scripts on dramanote, but most of the summaries have a lot of dialouge in them. And I could be missing something too.
