Japanese newspaper websites - taijuando - 2008-06-02 Anybody have good newspaper website ideas? I tried Nikkei but to tell the truth I like newspaper websites that have good pictures ( a la the New York Times). I'd like to follow the American elections in Japanese. I also know about fnn but I am really interested in a newspaper website not tv. The site that I've got the most value from is http://news.tbs.co.jp/ Admittedly this is Tokyo Broadcasting System as opposed to Tokyo Broadsheet System BUT the articles are very good imho. I've mined a fair few sentences as well as just read for enjoyment. Japanese newspaper websites - taijuando - 2008-06-03 thanks i bookmarked these pages Japanese newspaper websites - kurojohn - 2008-06-03 I kind of like this page for news. http://news.www.infoseek.co.jp/ Japanese newspaper websites - usis35 - 2010-09-29 how to read Japanese Newspaper Headlines: http://gakuranman.com/japanese-newspaper-headlines/ Japanese newspaper websites - aberu - 2010-10-10 So I have taken to reading FNN in the past week and started looping the articles on my mp3 player whenever i am outside my house, while breaking them down into +1 easy chunks in Anki.. I feel my ability to pick out words very quickly increasing, but I have a pretty important (at least to me) question: How extensive is the vocab of these news websites? I really want that huge, explosion of passive vocabulary at my disposal. I want that badly. I want to comprehend, to understand, and I already have learned quite a lot in just a week doing 4 articles at a leisurely pace.. However, how much vocabulary can I expect to pick up compared to an actual newspaper? How much compared to a book, or to entertainment television, or even to eachother? How does the vocab from TBS news compare to FNN? More vocabulary, or more intense grammatical structures? Does anyone have any input on this? I know AJATT owner had an article about this, and it said a little, but I was wondering if anyone else with actual experience/knowledge about this could give a little input. I am really enjoying the news right now and being to just pick out a random short article, knowing the article AND an almost perfect re-speaking audio clip are both right there, ripe for learnin'.. It is really awesome. It would really be nice to know what kind of limitations I should expect. Thanks

But it just takes time. It's hard to state how I did this, because I just did these simple things: Listened so much, read a lot, srsed so much. And eventually after a while, I just gained it naturally, and it was enjoyable/fun Japanese newspaper websites - kodorakun - 2010-10-11 aberu Wrote:So I have taken to reading FNN in the past week and started looping the articles on my mp3 player whenever i am outside my house, while breaking them down into +1 easy chunks in Anki.. I tried getting some streaming downloading software a while ago and failed pretty miserably. There was something unexpectedly convoluted occurring when I last gave it a shot. But I've been wanting to get a very similar routine going for a while as FNN has those nice transcripts to go with the audio... Thanks for any suggestions! Thanks for any suggestions!I don't know about the easiest, but this is how I do it on XP. Download. install and run SDP Downloader Select the play in Windows Media Player option for the FNN stream you want to extract. Right click on the streaming video, view properties and copy the stream location. Click Open in SDP Downloader and paste in the location. When it tells you "URL list now has data, please select an entry", simply click Go, and you'll be able to download the asf video file. Extract the audio with AoA Audio Extractor (free) and you're good to go. Shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes. I had an Audigy 2 back in the day that came with a different version that could do mp3.. eventually I lost the drivers, but I searched for a week and found this awesome version. I don't know if your audio card supports it (alot do), but I create a new file in Wavestudio, and set the recording device to "Rec. Playback/Audio Output" and it just records all the audio coming out of my speakers. Then I save it as an WMA 192kbps file after some editting. The great thing about it is the awesome options it has as far as increasing/decreasing volume which I use for normalization purposes so I don't have to constantly change the volume on my mp3 playerkodorakun Wrote:What's the best/easiest way to rip the audio from the FNN broadcasts? Japanese newspaper websites - ta12121 - 2010-10-11 @aberu I listened/watched anime in the beginning a lot. Then it branched onto dramas/movies and then news. I usual listened to it a lot since my timetable allowed me to do so. But since now I have work+school. It's becoming less and less time to do japanese. But that doesn't mean i'm quitting on it. Just the opposite, i'm trying to spend more time on it lol I'd say best to srs vocab+listen a lot. You will notice a huge difference in a few months[huge gain in terms of listening/understanding]. But even in a few days/weeks you will notice changes. The only downside with vocab in the beginning is, you don't know enough context. So it's usual recommended that one reach something like 1000 main kanji. Then one should go onto vocab, also the grammar stuff as well. The Batch function is really cool. There's an explanation of it right here: http://sdp.ppona.com/readme/readme.html#anchor33110 Basically, you just copy all of the stream filenames into a plaintext file, save it with a .asx extension, and let the program have at it. Nice to just set it up to do its work while you go do something else for an hour or two. (I haven't tried it yet.) |
