On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Northern_Lord - 2013-07-23 You're progressing really fast. Gonna be finished in no time like this, killua ![]() How much time do you spend each day on RTK? On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - killua - 2013-07-23 Northern_Lord Wrote:You're progressing really fast. Gonna be finished in no time like this, killuaI get 300+ reviews per day, those alone require 45-60 minutes. I can do them on the go thanks to AnkiDroid, so they aren't much of a problem. The most difficult task is memorizing new characters, of course. In good days I can study more or less 50 kanji in an hour. It doesn't progress linearly though, 100 takes more like 2.5 hours. Taking everything into account, I'd say 3 hours per day on average.
On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Vempele - 2013-07-23 Those speeds (time per review and time per new character) aren't significantly different from what mine were, and I only did recognition. Very impressive. How do you do it so fast? Very impressive. For the reviews it's pretty easy. I write down the kanji only if it is non-mature or with a difficult stroke order. I fail the flashcard if I need too much time to recall the answer. I study new characters in blocks of 25. First, I skim really fast through the book to see if there are interesting notes or new primitives. Then I add the kanjis on Anki, where I have a deck with the best stories and links to the pages of this site. I take advantage of Anki2 learning mode: the very first time I usually fail most of the flashcards, but I get a chance to read the story and write down the kanji. Most of the default stories work just fine for me; if some don't, I take a look at the kanji's page on RevTK, and I read some more. At least one sticks every time, and I don't bother to copy it back on Anki (if you can remember it, it's fine; if you can't, you have to change it anyway). EDIT: Quote:I only did recognitionUnusual, but interesting. Were you able to reproduce the characters after? On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Northern_Lord - 2013-07-23 You seem to have a good study technique. Maybe I will try to see if I can be more effective myself. I think my reviewing goes fast enough. I use my pointing as "pencil" and just draw the lines very quickly on the table. New characters I write out with a pencil though. Where I really think time can be spared is learning the new characters. I look at the next character in the book, go to the koohii study page, skim through the stories, make my own story if I can't relate to them. Then write the kanji down. This whole process might take up to 3 or 4 minutes per characer. 100 characters and I'll be stuck for 4 hours, not to speak of the fact I need food every hour to keep it going. BTW. are anyone else here sick of the Mr. T stories?

New characters I write out with a pencil though.I always write down new characters as you do. But for reviews, if I'm really sure about the shape I just "draw" the kanji in my mind, stroke by stroke. Quote:I look at the next character in the book, go to the koohii study page, skim through the stories, make my own story if I can't relate to them. Then write the kanji down. It's OK. Sometimes I need to go through the whole process, but I found this to be the exception rather than the rule. There are characters that do take some minutes to be learned, but most simply stick in a matter of seconds. You can't know in advance. I give each kanji the opportunity to be learned "the fast way". I believe it's more efficient to work on the difficult ones later, when you actually discover you have problems remembering them. ![]() Quote:BTW. are anyone else here sick of the Mr. T stories?I don't particularly love them. I really liked the Pinnacle ones though.
On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - pmnox - 2013-07-23 I saved some time by creating my deck by simply copying, using a script written by me, the top 10 stories and Heisig description of the word. So, I can study new characters without the need to browse the book nor go to the kanji.koohii.com webpage anymore. That saves me a lot of time. xD BTW, I was sick of Mr. T stories after the first one. So I replaced Mr. T with Rambo. It was like: PARTNER: Rambo doesn't need a partner; he crushed his spine long time ago. MYSELF: Rambo said "I destroyed every living thing myself from St. Bernard to eels". ARROGANCE: Rambo will never let away/set free anyone arrogant enough to throw mud(soil) in his face. EXCELLENT: Rambo's work is excellent, he destroyed everything that not even ivy remained. etc. On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Northern_Lord - 2013-07-23 @killua, Yeah, I've found mind-drawing them works fine with many kanji. Pinnacle is good. I just got there today. I think it's because it's such an easy consept. Far easier to imagine a mountain pinnacle than "righteousness" for example. @pmnox, Sounds like a good deck. I'm thinking of maybe importing the last 742 cards from the Heisig's deck on ankiweb with the most popular community stories if it's possible. There's no way I'm abonding my current deck with scheduling information and all. I had no idea who Mr. T even was before. For me Jedi was a good choice. How far are you pmnox? It contains 2198 Kanjis (2041 from 4th edition + 157 from the supplement). I can generate the deck for you if you want with or without the supplement and with or without the Heisig descriptions. I can also set the number of stories to be included from kanji.koohii.com. I dediced to use the top 10 just to limit the file size, as the current deck has size of about 15mb. It would probably be about 50mb if I were to include all descriptions.pmnox Wrote:I saved some time by creating my deck by simply copying, using a script written by me, the top 10 stories and Heisig description of the word.I wanted to do the same, then I found the premade deck on AnkiWeb. I also added links to all words examples to link them to an external dictionary. Right now they are linked to the Midori app on the iPad, but I can change that link to any online dictionary like weblio. You don't have to abandon your current scheduling information. You could just import my deck over your current deck. Anki would just overwrite your deck, but it would leave the scheduling information as it is. Anki check if cards are the same by the "Kanji" field. Vempele Wrote:I found a pdf version of the 4th edition of the book. Then I used a text recognition software to get the whole text. I don't know if I can publish the version of deck containing the while Heisig book on Anki, due to copyright reasons. Though I can send it to you privately. Maybe I should publish the version of my deck not containing the Heisig description on the official website. Hmm. What do you think? On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - killua - 2013-07-24 Don't worry about my request, anyway. I wrote my own script and I generated a deck with those properties.
On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - pmnox - 2013-07-24 I actually made that deck with all Kanjis from 6th ed + rtk3. I was planning to do that in future anyway for myself anyway, but I didn't get to doing it. I'm going to use the new deck from now on. xD I can't publish my private deck on Anki, because it has Heisig descriptions that are copy-righted. I can't publish my public deck on Anki, because Anki won't allow me to have same kanji in two versions. So I guess I won't be able to publish it on Anki. Oh, well. On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Socky - 2013-07-26 Half way there ![]() Doing 20 each day, and getting 60-80 reviews each day. I'm keeping a pretty steady pace but I'm going to Italy on Monday, so I may not be able to keep that pace all the time. I'm expecting a huge buildup of reviews during my vacation... possibly all the cards I have. Not exactly sure what I'm gonna do, because I'm staying for three weeks. I'll probably just read Tae Kim's guide and practice vocab when I can so I don't lose motivation. When I get back I'll resume kanji. The other alternative would be making my own RTK deck, but putting over 1000 in would take quite a long time. I use the Reviewing the Kanji website for SRS, which does fine... but missing Anki is lacking a huge resource -.- [Edit] Because I use the website as an SRS program, a buildup of reviews for me would be a problem. I can't get to it without Internet, and it's not like Anki where I can do it anywhere with a computer or mobile device. Maybe it works better downloading a deck from there. If laptop's the only option then I'd recommend chosing someone here on the forum that you trust and ask them the favor of exporting an RTK deck into an Anki deck package file and send it to you by email. Then you open the file in anki and the deck should get imported. If all fails you could take this as a good oportunity to find out what cards are solidly rooted in your mind. When you come back from vacation, faceing 800 decks you should have no qualms about selecting "easy" on cards you still remember (as some of them will be up to 3 weeks overdue) On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Socky - 2013-07-27 killua Wrote:http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/FMAfan123/media/AnkiError_zps289222aa.png.htmlQuote:My Anki doesn't work. There are other long error messages like this, but none identical to mine. I went as far as typing half of it in in the search bar, but got no results. The other errors I found were either ignored or really easily fixed (by upgrading Anki or something- but unless I'm really stupid or something I'm pretty sure I have the newest version.) I get this whenever I click Add Shared Decks. Also when I try to download a deck from the site and import it, it doesn't work either. Your application reports missing webpage (code error 404), which could be related to using a really old version. You should try installing latest version. The other issue could be with firewall, but it's less likely. If you use one try disabling it. If nothing of the above works, then you can report a bug on https://anki.tenderapp.com/ I reported bugs before, they usually respond quickly. |
