On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - jorrebenst - 2010-11-12 Yup, passed 3/4 a few days ago, now at 1663, but god it's a long haul. Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way. Good luck to you all, and here's to hoping I can finish this thing before I have to start studying for my exams. God what am I getting myself into lol, this is self-imposed torture = P On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - truando - 2010-11-12 Great! Congrats! Embrace yourself for a stiff ride to the end. You will make it - but please don't try to rush, take it easy. It's getting more difficult now, but if you take it step by step you'll eventually finish. がんばって! On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - jorrebenst - 2010-11-17 Yeah, I kinda get what you mean now, my deck "exploded" as I like to call it. Amount of expired cards per day suddenly doubled and my retention rate dropped by 10%. Ouch. Didn't add anything new yet this week to get rid of a suddenly huge failed stack. This is going to take a little longer than I expected... Did this happen to anyone else lol? How many reviews do most people have per day on this website near the end? On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - vonPeterhof - 2010-11-22 Just passed 1531. The third quarter took me 36 days, which means that I am still on schedule for finishing the book before New Years Eve. Looking good! Good luck, everyone! This is going to take a little longer than I expected...This is utterly normal, don't worry. Near the end, I had between 150 and 200 reviews a day I think. Things get peaceful when the NEW cards WILL start to reach stack 4 OR 5. AROUND 1900 I EVEN HAD TO STOP ADDING FOR A WEEK OR TWO. Thank God I've got my iAnki. Doing reviews on the toilet helps me keep my review stack under control. First RTK Lite, now almost RTK1 full, sure feels good. It took some time, but it's worth it

Time is a commodity, waste not want not! On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Wei13 - 2010-12-17 I've finally made it! I'm on frame 1532 right now, and I'm so glad to know that I'm 3/4 of the way done! The "Thread" Lesson was really difficult for me, it became easier once I replaced it with "Spiderman" but it was still pretty hard. Hopefully I can finish by the end of the year! On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Nagareboshi - 2010-12-29 Today i hit and passed frame 1531 or the 3/4 mark! It really feels good that i have reached that final pass mark on the road to 2042. ![]() It's incredible how far i have come in such a rather short amount of time. I started out on October 22nd, reached the 500th frame on November 15th, the half-way mark December 7th, and today i hit the 3/4 mark. Now only 496 kanji are left for me to deal with until i reach 2042. I think i can already see the finish line from here. I think that this was only possible thanks to the constant motivation of the community and this great website! Thanks guys you are great! My next stop will be The "I just finished RTK 1, please congratulate me" thread.
On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Wei13 - 2010-12-29 流れ星さん、おめでとう! Congratulations on reaching the 3/4 mark! I'm not going to lie, the next quarter of the book will be difficult (at least I found it to be so) but hang in there! I'm not going to lie, the next quarter of the book will be difficult (at least I found it to be so) but hang in there! Thanks for the warning. I will hang in there "2042 or bust" is my motto! I have been reflecting on your words though. And i think i know why the upcoming frames seem to be more difficult than they really are. Mind you i still have many frames ahead of me - at 1577 since yesterday - so i might be wrong. I will find out soon enough how hard the last quarter really is. I like challenges. Many keywords have the same meaning. I have been solving this problem by revolving my stories around one particular meaning of a given English keyword. One word more than one meaning to draw a story on my minds canvas. As well as on my flashcards where the stories are hidden of course. This has helped a lot in keeping keywords with the same meaning distinct from each other. Sometimes the problem still occurs that i have to write one kanji but end up with another instead. In one of my review sessions i had to write utensil 器 where i have written utilize 用 at first. But i eventually noticed my mistake before revealing the story or clicking the answer button. The problem here was not that both words are so similar. Utilize just had a "stronger" connection to something else i had in mind. In a book i have read something about a screwdriver as utensil to remember how to loosen or fasten a screw. In RTK 用 the word screwdriver is assigned to the primitive element. That is why i was confusing one with the other. The book was Laws of Simplicity by John Maeda. After i have written the kanji for utensil i remembered the frame coming after that and parts of the Heisig story as well. It was something along those lines that our friend St. Bernard is alive and well and sniffing for something or other. ![]() I once made a mistake in introducing a part of a new primitive element with the name of another. It was "line" describing a drop on top. Upon reviewing this particular kanji i was remembering the line not as top stroke but as "line, column, going" primitive. Which led to fail the kanji i had to write. The "line" was just too strong because of the number of kanji that use that element. Too many primitives in a rather short amount of time and only two or three kanji that follow them. Instead of just forming a visual image story to memorize a kanji, i have now started to incorporate all the parts that make up a new kanji in a story as well. I think that is the best way to learn and remember sets of two kanji sharing the same primitive elements. I don't know if this is the best way to do it but i hope it will work.
On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Dustin_Calgary - 2010-12-31 This is the second time I've posted in here, the first wa almost 2 years ago. Immediately after getting through the book life was turned upside down and I was 1300 card past due, I never got out of that situation, and gave up, cause life got it the way. This time I am taking it a little bit slower to ensure that this doesn't happen, so that it isn't a waste, however my retention rates are FAR better than round 1 so far. This shows how well the system works! The end of the book is probably the hardest, and I have the least experience with it so it might take a while to finish, but that's ok, the juice is worth the squeeze
On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - breakies - 2010-12-31 Hit the 1560th kanji, which correspond to my three quarters, since I study French version + RTK-omnibus-until-2042. If I continue at the same rythm, I should write in "I finish RTK" in next july @.@ See you @ I finish RTK, I hope. Congrats for all the people who have already written here, and all the people who're going one day to write after me

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - winterpromise31 - 2011-03-21 Woohoo!! Hit the 75% mark today. I'm flying now. I was going so slow at the beginning, only adding 10-20 kanji a day. Now I'm adding 40-50 kanji each day with one day off (from adding new kanji) to keep up with reviews. I set up a schedule for myself to be done on 4/6, exactly 90 days after starting. At the rate I'm going right now, I'm ahead of schedule and might finish two days earlier than that. We'll see! Congrats to everyone else who has hit the 3/4 mark! We're almost there! ~Cassandra On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - Andres - 2011-03-21 Finally 3/4 done! I've been trying to do some kanji every day but in the past two weeks, I've been lazy and haven't really done as much as I hoped, but now my goal is to try to do 50 a day. Today, I did 80+ but I don't think I'll do as much in the next few days. On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - mlorenz - 2011-03-29 Hit frame 1531 a few days ago but kept forgetting to post. Feels good to be on the home stretch, even if it's taken me quite a bit longer than I originally planned. Feels even better to look at Japanese texts and be able to read a bit (and take educated guesses at even more) of what I couldn't understand before. On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - tregingigan - 2011-04-05 Hit frame 1501 today. The best thing is that I have around 1330 in four+ stack ![]() It took me one year and a half. But it doesn't matter, I'm not in a hurry... On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - MountainDewGuy - 2011-04-06 I'm on 1550 now, almost there. I can tell this is where things start to get difficult though. The keywords are starting to get sketchy with the similar meanings, but I'm doing my best to ignore it and not get frustrated. I'm sure that will be cleared up when I start learning the actual words. It's also frustrating missing long matured cards, but after five months of not seeing a kanji it is to be expected, and I usually remember it right away after I miss it. Let us all do our best to stay motivated and meet each other in the completed thread. On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - NoSleepTilFluent - 2011-04-06 It doesn't get harder. All 漢字 are easy with the tools we have developed. On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - TwoMoreCharacters - 2011-04-06 ^ I thought the same. Only on 1776 right now though. It's motivating to go through the more frequent kanji I recognize or know a reading of already. Can't wait to get to 気. |
