Congrats Elysium!

I just made it to 1547 myself....and I'm tired too! I just want to push through the rest of RtK as soon as possible.

Thank you nesert. Congratulations to you as well.

Reached frame 1530 after I started about 10 and a half months ago (it took me about 4 months to get here after the half-way mark).

Looks like I won't make it in one year, but as long progress is being done every day, that is enough. Really can't quit at this point of the journey. Smile

I passed the 3/4 mark a while ago, and after a few 70+ days I'm now on frame 1670. Sometimes it seems like I've come a long way, but at other times it seems like I'm moving at a snail's pace. I want to be done already, gosh darnit!! Maybe my impatience has to do with the fact that I'm only doing kanji, no vocab/grammar. I've tried doing listening AJATT-style, but I've found that passive listening doesn't really help at all in terms of comprehension. Sad

Regardless, I've only got 372 kanji to go!

Frame 1565. I should be happy but I have so many reviews to do =[

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - eggcluck - 2010-08-04

Well I never posted before so I figured I may as well now^^

Yay 1531! Such a hard slog, at least the entertaining Kanji make up for those annoying boring where you jsut sit there going, errrrrrr...

Been a long 30 odd days; huge numbers of reivews now too :S hopefully I can get the remaing covered in the next 10 days or so and slowly dwindle the size of the daily reviews afterwards.

I'm on frame 1500. Should hopefully reach 1550 tonight. It's taken me so much longer just to get to this point than it should have. looks like my deck is about 3.2 months old. I did the first 900 or so Kanji at 50 a day breezing through it. But lately the Kanji seem harder to develop concrete images for and my motivation is dwindling.

Been working on Core 2k and reading through Japanese the Manga way as well. Those are good fun. I've completed step one of Core 2k so far and I really like it, and I find Japanese the Manga Way quite entertaining and informative. But I'm hating Kanji right now. I really just want to be done with RTK. I've thought of stepping up my efforts to 100+ a day and just getting it done, but reviewing 100 new in Anki at one time just sounds like murder. Not sure what to do >.>

congratulations on making it this far. You will probably find from 1500-2042 the slowest, most painful section of the whole RTK journey. I really hope you take it slow because I did the 100/day to get it done and I still have 150 re-study cards a month later. Reviews get longer and the kanji starts to get fuzzier as you try to remember them all. So please do yourself a favor, take it slow and make it count because you will thank yourself in the end when your RTK reveiws lessen and you can spend your time on other more "fun and productive things".

I wish you the best of luck slogging through this bog in the fog XD.

1 and a half years after starting, here I am. I don't know if I should be happy or dismayed.

No, no, I'm going to complete this. I've got a good routine going now, I have solid momentum, just like I had going from 0-700. I stumbled around for the next year, adding a few here and there, which over the course of a year got me up to 1300. But now I've been adding 20 daily and keeping ontop of reviews. I shall prevail! And might even take the record for the longest time taken to complete RTK Tongue

And to think this is only some small fraction of the work needed for fluency. I sure hope studying the language is more fun than RTK.

So! I've just passed the 3/4 mark!
It's interesting how hard I have to work on some groups of kanji, while others I can memorize almost without any effort...
My plan is to post in the "Please congratulate me"-thread by end of september, but I'll be on vacation for a weak, next weak. When I come back I expect to be welcomed by a huge pile of review cards... Let's see how that works out!
Anyway, I'm quite proud to have made it this far! Now onto the rest - how hard can it be...

Don't worry, I saw a guy a few days ago that finally finished after more than 6 years!
So, no need to work yourself up.

And yes studying the language is more fun: reading is the best, but getting a sentence that contains a grammar point you've just studied is also a great feeling.

Congratulations on making it this far. Good luck on finishing RTK by the end of September. I hope your weeks vacation is going good. I have to caution you on rushing through the last ~500 kanji because with reveiws, things start to get hazy and the last 500 will take more brain power than any other set. Good luck, see you in the "Please congratulate me"-thread.

I hit the 3/4 mark today also Big Grin with a steady 20 new ones a day(only missed it two times heh Sad ). Overall it went pretty ok and I like it Big Grin around the 700 it went a bit sluggish with learning new ones. Luckily that sluggishness didn't continue that long. And all is going fine now Big Grin

congratulations to all the other that have just made the 3/4 mark also!

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - token686 - 2010-08-29

Made it to exactly 1531 today, and looking back at it. I actually never thought I would reach from the half way mark to here.

Congratulations to everyone who has made it this far, you should be proud of yourselves for putting in this much effort to finishing up the book.

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - EratiK - 2010-09-09

I shall reach 1550 tonight. Geesh... I feel pretty much like I did on the half mark. It's not getting easier, but I learn faster (if you see what I mean). I want it to be over with, even though it's still fun. It still beats the two years predicted by the academic method (learn everything at the same time doing only kanji).

Congratulations everyone, hang in there.

Almost there...
I can...
almost...
reach...

Technically I'm on 1525 but since I do 25 a day I figured I'd post early Tongue Glad to be 3/4 the way there its really nice for motivation.

It feels like it's only a week since I posted on 1000 kanji mark thread but it actually is 3-4 weeks! It's a great feeling to be here, congratulations to all! This is the last stage before we "graduate". Even though the reviewing of kanjis do go on, we will slowly move on to other places. This has been a great site so far!

I've been able to keep up with the 25 new kanji per day. According to my Anki statistics, there have been 3 days that I've failed to add new kanjis on but I've been able to mend it later on. Also my reviews per day has increased to over 100 per day which is a little alarming. Fortunately I'm so close to the end that I should be able to make it to the haven before my ship sinks.

So the final countdown has started! 498 new kanji left! with my speed, the big day for me will be 15th October!

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - froggeh - 2010-09-27

Finished on frame 1586 today. Had a goal of finishing the book by the end of October but I don't think that's going to happen now! Reviews are getting big.

Can't wait to start learning real Japanese, shouldn't be too long now.

Thanks again to everyone who shared their stories.

Congrates to the 8 people above me for reaching this amazing position in your 日本語 journey. I will warn you, the next 500ish kanji will be the most difficult but they will be the most rewarding kanji because once your done with them your done RTK!

Good Luck.

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - truando - 2010-10-17

HA!!!

Made it to frame 1531 plus a few from RTK3. Total count 1541.

Feels great, but the last 200 were really tough. Sometimes it's hard to come up with a good story.

Also I noticed that when I'm tired I'm having a hard time to remember the initial connection to the story. I didn't have much sleep lately ( 20 month old kid), so this really didn't help. When I am fresh and rested things are much easier.

I'll take it slow for the rest of the trip, maybe spend some time to go back and work on similar keywords to help keeping them apart.

I plan to finish in a month. See you at the finish line.

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - caitlind - 2010-11-09

1555, finally. It's all downhill from here, right? I'm ashamed to admit I really slacked off for about a month after hitting 1200 or so right after I came to Japan. I didn't add any new cards and only did reviews like twice a week, now I finally got my shit back together. I should be done in exactly two weeks if I stick to 35/day. So close.

That's not how it feels to me. On the contrary. I'm at 1815 and I can't wait to finish it...

Good luck for the rest of your journey.

Congrats everyone!

Just reached frame 1616 (門) today... I'm past the 3/4 mark I guess, but I still wanted to celebrate. It's been hard (and way too long) to get this far, but I'm not stopping now! Big Grin

On frame 1531. 3/4 of the way done! - KMDES - 2010-11-09

On about frame 1550 of my second full run of RTK1. Been going good with a little over 100 kanji a day.
