aka, "You know you've been SRSing too much when..."

1) ...you have to upgrade your cell phone plan to fit in more Anki data transfer.
2) ...your first thought on seeing a difficult passage is how many flashcards it would take to understand it all.
3) ...a weekend trip makes you nervous because you'll have three days worth of reviews to catch up when you get back.

What symptoms are you showing?

I'm using AJATT's SRS. Each day you have until 1am to finish off your reviews, if not it goes into the next batch.

1. So last Friday night, I was like "I have to go home by 12, so I can have an hour to finish my reviews"

2. Every time my family sees me on the computer, all they see is me using my SRS.

3. I wouldn't even plan a weekend trip

4. I purposely review as much as I can early in the day. I learned that for some reason, random things will pop up out of nowhere and try to prevent me from finishing.

Actually, a weekend trip would be too much at the moment... But I have two days possibly coming up which could keep me from adding new kanji, so I'm doing more than my daily goal to be able to skip those days.

1. Ask your parents to reschedule a trip until you're finished with RTK1 (yes I did this. They did reschedule as well.)

2. Keep trying to convert people to SRS-ism by talking about it non stop

3. (more a sign of RTK-overdose I suppose) think of kanji stories whenever you hear/read certain keywords.

4. when you see new information, wonder how it could be turned into SRS cards.

Oh god, this is SOOOO me. I only discovered SRS and Anki last week, and I've already told about 10 people about it, with at least half of them already checking out the sites and a couple of them have started doing the program as well.....lol.

My internet was just out for 2-3 days, and I was literally going crazy since I couldn't access this site, and the idea of my reviews piling up was stressing me out to no end. After some hours of reviewing, I still have 225 cards left in my expired pile now, and I've been spending so much time reviewing that I haven't been able to learn any new cards, so even though my internet was only out for like 3 days, I'm left with 4 or maybe even 5 days of not learning new material, so I'm going to have to double up now in order to meet my goal that I was aiming towards (finish in exactly 3 months).

I got myself an Eee PC so I can do my reviews on the bus or even during a weekend trip. It allows for very efficient studying and leaves me with more time for social activities. Plus when I am at a party I can immediately SRS all the things a hot chick tells me about herself and impress her with my retention rate later on Wink

1. Postponing your 4-days stay at your girlfriend's house until she manages to get her broken internet connection working again.
2. Using your SRS reps as an excuse when you don't want to do something: "I'm sorry, I've still gotta finish studying, I can't come today..."
3. Finding yourself repeating random Japanese sentences and kanji stories in your mind during *any* activity.

1. When you put off studying for a final you have that day in order to add more kanji.
2. You're in one of the most beautiful places in the world and you're inside adding kanji/sentences (I was on the Gold Coast of Australia when I did RTK1).

When you realize that you've been spending literally all day everyday entering kanji or reviewing them for a month straight. (Today is 31 days for me)

You know, I estimate about 160 hours spent in the last month on kanji.

I'm going on vacation for a week, but I'm bringing my laptop with me and committed to 50 new kanji a day plus reviews. Is that too much? I've been doing SRS for under a week, and I'm at kanji #518. My large amounts of reviews should start hitting during my vacation.

By the way, when I lie down to sleep, I think of a recent radical and all the kanji I can make with it.

OMGOSH. Thank GOD I am not the only person like that on the planet. Seriously. I thought I was the only one who struggles to keep conversations on topics besides Japanese. And I'm totally down on the whole "My social life is totally suffering because of ANKI" thing. Oh yeah, during the day, any time I'm not in front of my computer, I can practically *feel* the reps building up. That's why I can only do like 12 new each day--otherwise I'd freak out and have a nervous breakdown. Perfectionist much?....

Or similarly, doing the SRS a lot, but then having nightmares about having to figure out kanji but failing horribly! Cannot do anything cause you are stuck in Japan with Kanji attacking and you need to beat them!! ><
