I didn't get it at first either. But now I think I get it.
The plot for the story is ten words: Boy meets girl, fall in love, live happily ever after.
The pulp fiction story works better for me since I have seen pulp fiction a million times.
But I could see how jwy2k2's story could work well for someone, especial if the word "plot" readily brings to mind a hackneyed plot like the one described in 10 words above and the unusual method of presenting the story could cement it in your brain.

There are so many good stories it is hard to choose, for example the story from fab of the RING is pure genious.
I also struggled with MATTER until I read synewave's story:
"What's the matter? - Remembering this one b&$tard kanji for a start I say through my mouth. You know that one with the rake in it."
But for me the one that really stuck out which I will never forget is dingomick's versify (吟)rap: "Hickery dickery dock, the mouth spat out the clock." Top class.

I think the one for "look to" helped me out. Fairly graphic though.
Of course, it soon comes to a point where you're expected to just attach the concept to the kanji, so that any language's version of that concept quickly brings up the correct kanji (in our case, Japanese words). That's why I'd go for a less memorable story so long as it has a better version of the concept imbedded inside. Therefore, for "outlook" for example, I'd skip the Microsoft Outlook story (even though it's more memorable) and go for the Pegasus looking around as it's more in line with the concept for Outlook.

I liked those Crowned Samurai stories for "CEREALS". One about the crowned samurai buying wheaties cereal because you get a free missile. The other was about the Samurai crowning Wheaties as the official cereal and that anyone who ate other cereals was sent a missile blown to them.
Also, for "TIRED" Dingomick's story about Caveman tired after hauling mammoth pelts all day long. No matter how hard I try to forget this, I simply can't.

I also really like dingo's stories. I noticed very early on that his stories are eerily similar to my initial thoughts or feelings about how the primitives go together. I guess what I'm saying is, thanks for getting here before I did Dingo. Now, I don't have to waste time typing out a bunch of my stories, haha. I'd say I've copied about 30% of what you've shared.
