Kinokuniya is hiring - RawrPk - 2016-01-26

  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
  • All positions require business level Japanese AND English (Speak/Read/Write)

I saw it posted their homepage. I don't have the Japanese requirement for the jobs but thought I'd share for those looking for part time jobs.

I always find it funny how these things contain list of requirements but nothing about what they offer... Smile

Well... bookstore jobs, Japanese or not, are -always- that way. And the compensation is -terrible- because everybody who reads books thinks working in a bookstore would be great... and they're not wrong, exactly... as long as they have another job to pay the rent.

In theory, but like in any job sometimes you get brutal bosses that turn an otherwise good job into a cluster fornication of suck.

Maybe not. Depends on where you're at in life. I started working part time in a bookstore while attending University. You're looking at typical retail/minimum wage type wages but depending on what store you work for and how much you read, the employee discount (40% where I worked) can make a huge difference. And if you move up the employee chain... I was an assistant manager by the time I left and while I wasn't rolling in the dough, I was doing well enough as a single guy to pay off my student loans (20-ish years ago, things are more expensive now) and start some small-scale investing in stocks, mutual funds, and the like.

I think that goes for most retail jobs.

I've worked a short time in retail but mostly as a server in the food industry. It's not a pleasant way to make a living.
