To each his own, man. But I can't help but wonder how much native content you could have read during that year and how much your knowledge of readings would have improved then. In the end, we all choose the methods that we believe in and, more importantly, that we can stick to — the latter reason makes me focus on reading as much native content as I can.

That post reminds me of 下半身露出.

下 is not part of any of the pure, semi or mixed groups (which are the heart of RTK2).

RTK2 does cover the 下 ON yomi readings with two common examples 地下鉄 [ちてつ] and 下駄[た].

We can assume that john555 is also aware of した. So he won't be really surprised that you can present examples for these readings.

If you wanted to prove that john555 can not be sure which of these 3 readings to take in which case, then you probably misunderstood what RTK2 can provide in regard to learning ON readings. Heisig puts it this way:

"True enough, there are exceptions. A lot of them. But there is also a great deal of consistency which can be sifted out and structured for the learning. The principal aim of the first ten chapters is to isolate these patterns of consistency and use them to the fullest, holding brute memory at bay as long as possible."

No claim of magic effects, but right from the beginning it is pointed out that there are deminishing returns from the first chapter with pure groups til the 10th chapter with uncommon readings. Nevertheless john555 seems to be extremely happy with the results achieved with this more systematic approach.

If you just wanted to point out that there is still more to learn, then that is certainly true. Big Grin

@dogafincan: Don't know if/when john555 wants to read native content, but I thought that he was coming rather recently away from romaji, so it is quite understandable, that he did not start off with reading novels. RTK2 can be a helpful step on the way to reading native content - and some people even love it:

I'm not saying it was easy, but I loved using RTK2. Never understood all the hate or apathy it seems to get.
