Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - TheVinster - 2015-12-15 Hey guys, looking for app recommendations. Something that can help me form positive habits, but also track goals along the way. I want to put in overarching and constant goals (e.g. move to Japan), amidst smaller ones while forming those positive habits along the way (e.g. studying for 'x' amount per day). I have Android. Got suggestions? RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2015-12-16 I like the Forest app. It's free for Android ($0.99 iOS). It's a good way to keep track of your productivity time with little trees. It's a very cute and visual way to keep track of your study time It blocks certain apps of your choosing alsohttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cc.forestapp RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - tokyostyle - 2015-12-16 HabitRPG is now Habitica and it has an Android App. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - Bokusenou - 2015-12-16 I second Habitica! It's a super awesome RPG-like habit tracker. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - yukamina - 2015-12-16 Right now I'm using Time Tune for daily scheduling and Goal Tracker for mid/longer term goals. I think I'll check out that Forest app, it looks neat! RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - TheVinster - 2015-12-27 Forgot to respond to this but thanks for the help guys, I've been using Habitica. Was kinda using it mildly until today, but now I'm trying to ramp up so that I'm eliminating bad habits that are obviously interfering with the good ones I'm trying to make (e.g. watching Twitch all the time and not committing to Japanese things). Going to list my current set of habits, dailies, goals, etc. Can anyone provide some good ones I should add? In addition to rewards. Habits ・Read/listen to 1 hour of Japanese (Positive) ・Don't watch or play Dota2 (Positive / Negative) ・Don't drink pop, or eat desserts/snacks (Positive / Negative) Dailies ・Anki reviews ・Read Japanese opinion pieces: Yomiuri / Asahi ・Write a Lang-8 entry To-Do's ・Translate resume to Japanese ・Move to Japan RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-01-02 (2015-12-27, 11:05 am)TheVinster Wrote: Forgot to respond to this but thanks for the help guys, I've been using Habitica. Going to list my current set of habits, dailies, goals, etc. Can anyone provide some good ones I should add? In addition to rewards. I actually just asked a friend about this and he said quantifying tasks would be better(e.g., add X amounts of sentences into anki, read a chapter of a novel or manga). Those examples are meant for the Dallies. As for habits, I'm adding things that I should be doing more than once a day. Here is an example of my lists Habits ・Read 10 more pages in 日本語 (+) ・Watch another episode on raw Japanese media (+) ・Pocoyo season 1(+) ・Hug bf (+) <---I wanted a freebie for exp lol ・The other default habits Dallies ・RTK 30 漢字 ・Listen to Pocoyo audio ・Watching an episode of raw Japanese media (drama, TV show, or anime...w/e) ・Read 1 chapter of a manga or light novel To-Do's ・Create audio playlist for Pocoyo containing 7 episodes ・Finish tweeking RTK deck with Japanese keywords The dallies I add tasks to things I must do on a daily basis with a strict deadline. The habits section are things I can do in addition, basically an incentive to do more than the minimal (dallies). That is why my habits are similar to my dallies. To-Do's are just dumb things I need to do with no real deadline. I plan to pair Habitica with the Forrest app. The Forrest app I think will be more useful for book keeping time spent on certain tasks. It is easy to label each tree grown too and the app keeps a history of how many trees grown that day. I'll try this pairing out for a week or so and update everyone of the results
RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - anotherjohn - 2016-01-02 In recognition of the unreasonable effectiveness of this sort of motivation on my psychology I've just signed up on Habitica. Habits:
Dailies:
Todos:
Ironically I did the above while procrastinating further over today's Anki reviews, which I have once again left until the late evening despite spending the whole day doing bugger all ![]() I just realised that I didn't put anything for the piano, but the truth is I'm not really that bothered about it atm
RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - gaiaslastlaugh - 2016-01-02 Looks neat - I've jumped on board. I'm kind of amused by the app's inconsistent localization - none of the UI is in Japanese but some of the prizes/pre-fab entries are. It's a work in progress, I guess Current entries. No major To-Dos yet - will update those in the coming week. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-01-02 you can convert the menu to Japanese. Just click the Setting cog icon> Site . Then from that page you should be able to convert language to 日本語。Have mine in Pirate English cuz it's hilarious xD RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - gaiaslastlaugh - 2016-01-02 (2016-01-02, 5:12 pm)RawrPk Wrote: you can convert the menu to Japanese. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-01-02 Oh I see. I thought you meant the website. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - anotherjohn - 2016-01-03 Just wanted to report that I am set to achieve all my Dailies today, including posting to lang8 for the first time ever thus taking a first tentative step towards developing my production skills. And yes, I did it for the gold and XP. It's just embarrassing
RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-02-03 Just wanted everyone who uses Habitica to know that there is an Anki addon! https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/954979168 [EDIT] does anyone know where I'm supposed to place my user ID and API token in the py file? I must be placing it in the wrong place because it didn't make the habits in my Habitica as the Read me file stated. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-03-24 皆さん、great news! Habitica has a Data Display Tool site! It's a great alternative to exporting your data to .CSV files. http://habitica.wikia.com/wiki/Data_Display_Tool RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - Copycatken - 2016-03-27 Habitica sounds like fun way to form habits. Has someone made a RtK guild yet? RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - yogert909 - 2016-04-14 Google just added Goals to google calendar. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks more my style since I like things being elegant and simple and I'm not into gameification. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-04-14 Oh yeah I saw this the other day. Made me wanna try the mobile app. Though for Android it isn't out yet (or maybe just me?). I usually used my default phone calendar app with my synced google calendars but this looks more streamlined. I hope the feature comes out soon. I'd love to try it
RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - yogert909 - 2016-04-14 You may want to double check. I don't have a droid, but from what I've read, it seems to be out on both platforms. Actually it seems unlikely google would do it on iOS before android considering they have a vested interest in adding value to their own platform. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-04-14 Nope. Just checked right now. When I press the + symbol on the bottom right corner, all I see are "Event" and "Reminder". Maybe it's my brand of phone? I have the Samsung Galaxy S5. EDIT: Guess I'm not the only one with the problem https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/calendar/uNaVJzaOUqE;context-place=topicsearchin/calendar/goals RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - yogert909 - 2016-04-14 You probably have an older version of the calendar app. If you are running an older os, perhaps it won't run the newer app though. Not sure. I'm on iOS and have my phone set to auto-update everything overnight. RE: Goal/Habit-Forming Apps - RawrPk - 2016-04-15 Awesome! Update finally released with the Goals feature in the Google Play store. I had thought it was strange that I didn't have the updated version as I had downloaded the app yesterday but I guess the update wasn't out til now. |
