The books you recommended are not mainstream either and nobody mentioned Howard Zinn being mainstream. But I don't think most Americans hate their country either - far from it. I just don't think you are doing our country any favors by talking only about the good things we do and the bad things other countries do.

Out of curiosity how do you reconcile your desire to learn the truth with the obvious bias of that book? Based on the title it seems to be selling itself on a promise not to present things in an honest manner unless they already conform to a certain viewpoint.

The standard neo-con line is that "mainstream journalism" is biased liberal propaganda and "academics" are biased liberals living in ivory towers with no sense of reality. So finally there are news outlets like fox news to "tell it like like it really is". The problem with this, of course is you can believe anything if you don't question your assumptions.

Is this a serious question? And are people still pushing the narrative that the A bombs were "necessary"?
If we're talking about remorse wrt to Japan we could at least focus on the issue of Korean comfort women or the Rape of Nanjing.
