Question about book "Chokusetsuhou de oshieru Nihongo" - Karinar - 2015-12-02

Hi everyone, I'm kind of new to the forum so please forgive me if this isn't the right area for this post.

Anyway, I took the old N4 for Noryokushiken aaaages ago (because it turned into N5, so I guess that'd be my level now) but I've forgotten a lot of it, so I figured I'd pick back up on my Japanese learning. While browsing on an old used books shop I came across the book "Chokusetsuho de oshieru Nihongo / 直接法で教える日本語" (that's the romanization google threw up, anyway) and bought it, but the truth is my kanji is way, way rusty (back to basics it is!) and the book is entirely in Japanese (and very thick compared to my Minna no Nihongo), so I felt a bit overwhelmed.

Considering it seems to start with simple introduction sentences I'm figuring it does indeed start from a beginner-ish standpoint (just assuming you can read kanji), but I'm unsure.

On to the actual questions, if anyone knows or has experience with the book:

What levels is this book for? What level does it take you through by the end?
If it happens to match their level, how does it compare to MNN / Genki?
Am I missing a lot if I don't have the CD that came with it? (used book, you know, CD was missing) And was it a program or audio that it had?

I'd appreciate any guidance you can give, thanks!  Smile

I'm sorry to break it to you but I think that's a teacher's book. The title translates to "Teaching Japanese using the Direct Method".

Yup, what EratiK said.
Set it aside for now and use it for reading practice when you're a bit better? Smile

Ah, I see. Thank you EratiK and Ash_S!
I guess I will use it for reading practice once I brush up on some of the kanji (and learn a few more). Plus it might have some interesting examples as well.  Big Grin
