RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - Kuroro - 2016-01-06

I don't know If this is only happening to me, but if write some text in Japanese in the reply box and then hover over it with my cursor the entries displayed by Safarikai end up in the message itself, for example if I write ありがとう and then move my cursor over it and hit preview this is what I get

  • [ri]
counter for people; (usu. in compound words) person
(...)

The plugin itself also shows up in a weird manner:

(edit: fuaburisu: shortened post)

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-01-06

Probably because the plugin interfers with the HTML content used by the Rich Text Editor. See previous post #100.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - Kuroro - 2016-01-06

It worked wonders, thanks Smile

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - ファブリス - 2016-01-07

The ability to report private messages has been added today.

Click the red Report link under a PM and it will be reviewed by forum staff.

Obviously once a PM is reported it is no longer private to you, as it can be reviewed by Moderators and Admin.

Please note that courtesy and respect towards other members is expected via Private Messages just the same as it is in public discussions. While we (forum staff) can't read PMs directly, we will review reported PMs and moderate where necessary.

This is especially useful for spam / scams. Please report them (don't just dismiss them) as it helps us weed out spam accounts.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - Zgarbas - 2016-01-17

I just realised that Location disappeared from beneath users' names. I always thought it pretty useful; any chance of it coming back?

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-01-17

"Location" is something that was filled in from then named "Reviewing the Kanji" when accounts were linked with the kanji study site (now called Kanji Koohii). It wasn't on PuBB as far as I remember, and has been lost during conversion. Could have been maintained as a "custom field" on user's profiles but it didn't seem worth the trouble.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - poiprotocol - 2016-01-17

I too really liked the Location text underneath the name. Miss it a lot, and think it would be a great enhancement to make a custom field available that people could fill in again if they wish.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-03-22

Hi guys

The rich text editor seems broken. Two stylesheet files of the "sceditor" return a 404 error.

My best guess is the web host once again blocked some files they believe could be insecure, or changed how the permissions work.

These are stylesheets though, and there is nothing of interest in those files or "cross site" requests (like custom fonts for example). So I have no idea.

I don't have any solution right now, and won't be able to fix this until later tonight.

In the meantime:

* Preferably Use the Quick Reply
* New Reply / New Topic : there is a textarea way at the bottom of the gray box if you click you can then resize it and type into it.

I just noticed this too. I thought it was just a chrome problem but here I am with the same issue with Firefox. It took me a few minutes to find the gray box :/ thank you for informing us about the box.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - Bokusenou - 2016-03-22

Phew! I noticed it recently, and I thought my tablet was acting up or something...
Hopefully there's a fix for this kind of thing.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - yogert909 - 2016-03-22

I experienced it on 3 devices and still thought it was me! Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-03-23

Sorry I have a bunch of other things on my mind atm and really no idea why this error happens.

If anyone knows why the web host would suddenyl return 404's for the "mybb.css" file please let me know (you can see the two 404's in the Chrome developer console or FIrebug's network tab).

I briefly checked the file permissions the other day and I didn't see a problem there. The files are actually on the server. So this makes me think the web host added them to some kind if blacklist, or maybe they match a pattern set in their blacklist. I can't think of anything else atm, since those are plain boring css files.

All I can think of once I have time is to rename the files, and edit the corresponding templates or code that generate the stylesheet links, which is not a great solution.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-03-24

Did a quick hack that fixes the editor tool bar, but the styles inside the text area are not correct.

I really have no idea why this happens so I filed a ticket with the web host.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - yogert909 - 2016-03-24

Good work.  It's working for me as I type this.

Thanks!

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - RawrPk - 2016-03-24

I just realized it worked while I was typing up my last post. Thanks again Big Grin

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - shaydwyrm - 2016-04-03

This is a pretty specific bug, but when I type "un-" into the keyword box in the Browse section of the site, 非 (1632) shows up as an autocomplete option. When I click on that, however, I am taken to http://kanji.koohii.com/study/kanji/un- which incorrectly resolves to the page for 企 (375).

Edit: Oops, reading the OP with my brain turned on it looks like this is not the right thread for feedback about the non-forum part of the site....

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-04-05

The bug that started late March which broke the rich text editor should be back to normal now. Typing in the rich text editor the font should be back to sans-serif, and quotes etc formatted as they appear in posts.

Nice, works for me. Smile

Hi guys

It's a bit difficult for me at the moment to get back into the swing... maybe some ideas would motivate me.

I am not a graphic designer. I still feel like the forum could use more colour now. Perhaps the separation between individual posts, and the background overall. It's difficult to do... so if you have some suggestions, perhaps Japanese sites that you like the colour theme, let me know.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - yukamina - 2016-06-18

I miss the old yellow color, to be honest. Somehow I still think of this forum as yellow even though it's not.

Are you looking to change the design of the current default or make additional themes that could then be chosen by users? I've expressed a desire for a dark theme before but that's very much an individual preference sort of thing and I know it's not for everyone.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is to replace the background pattern with a texture instead. The pattern kinda looks like old-timey home wallpaper or something, doesn't feel very modern.

This is from a darker site but I think just a subtle texture like shown here works well.

Here is some text on a page-like texture, which might only be best for mobile devices but I think it makes the text pop out nicely.

I'm also not a graphics designer so I don't know what the general consensus is on gradients but I think it can work.

As for separating individual posts in a more distinct way, one possibility would to color them such that the post kind of sinks into the background somewhat.

I think this could be done on light or dark sites.

Just some ideas, I too would like to see what others think would look good.

(2015-11-17, 8:47 pm)RawrPk Wrote: I am having difficulty typing Japanese on my laptop. I use Windows 8.1 and I'm using the Japanese ime. I'll explain. Whenever I change my language to Japanese and type something and press SPACE BAR to show an option of kanji, the entire word disappears! I can only add Japanese if I write it on a notepad and copy/paste onto the forum message box.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue (explanation below), but something like that has been happening to me ever since the site was updated. And it's not just that. Below is a list of the issues I've had so far that I can recall.

Typing in Japanese
This doesn't happen every single time, but the times it doesn't are kind of rare. Basically, it stops recognizing whatever I'm typing as a word that I'm still typing as if I'd just pressed enter. It happens in a very short span of time. The only time I can type without that much of a struggle is when the words are very short and easy to type. Sometimes, you even get roman letters in the mix because of that. Let's see what happens when I try typing something?

What I'm trying to type (copy and pasted):
皆さんは「和紙」という言葉を知っていますか。和紙の「和」という字には色々な意味がありますが、その一つに「日本」「日本風」「日本製」という意味があります。

Example of what happens:
みんnあさんは「和紙」という意味をしっていますkあ。和紙の「和」という字にhあ色々な意味がありますが、そnお一つに「にほん」「にほん風」という意味があります。

(Yeah, it looks horrible.)

Oddly enough, I've just tried typing a sad face by typing "Sad", but it only appears after I press space bar twice and only for a split second. Then I'm left with ":Sad", which obviously includes one extra character I didn't even type to begin with. No matter how many times I try it, I get the same result.

EDIT: Ok, so I've noticed that the smileys do show up in my post. But I still can't see them before that if just I type them, which is confusing to say the least.

Highlighting text
Just now, I tried holding shift to highlight and delete a sentence with my keyboard, but the selection went crazy. Simply put, it decides to stop selecting things halfway through it, then starts unselecting everything until that point from the starting point and then selects whatever comes after it went crazy as usual. This happens all the time. For example, I just tried to copy the previous paragraph and here's what I got:

This has been happening to me as well ever since the site was updated. While there are times this doesn't happen, they're kind of rare. And it's n

Deleting text
It does some pretty crazy stuff sometimes when I hold backspace or del. It's a little more random, but after a few attempts, the cursor stopped deleting what I wanted and went all the way to the beginning of the quote above (without deleting anything). But I've already deleted part of the names I'm quoting several times trying to erase something else.

In fact, just pressing it once is sometimes enough. I highlighted part of the text to delete, then press del a single time, and after deleting that bit the cursor went to the beginning of RawrPK. So obviously, you start deleting the very thing you're quoting if you actually happen to be holding del. Sometimes, it also goes to other places, other than the beginning of the post, but that happens less often.

Another very annoying issue is that sometimes when I hold backspace, the cursor remains in the same place and doesn't delete anything at all.

RE: NEW FORUM: General feedback - fuaburisu - 2016-06-20

All the issues with Japanese text input I assume are because of the Rich text Editor. You may have to turn it off in your profile so it defaults to plain text (where you can still type [ bb ] [ / code ] ).

Thing is I could try replacing it which is not easy to do, and I would have no guarantee at all that it works better, and it could work worse. If you do use a rich text editor in another website that seems to work great with the Japanese input let me know and I can investigate if it is an option for MyBB. (this one is called SCeditor).

To turn off the Rich Text Editor go to your account > Edit Options (sidebar) > check "Put the editor in source mode by default" (bottom right, last set of options). You can still toggle between "view source" and "preview" with the right most icon in the editor.
